This weekend's trial offered up a fantastic story line for a B-rated horror movie.....I can see the film trailer now. A picturesque farm just after a heavy rain shower. Sheep grazing. A waif of a BC heading out for the gather. When suddenly, the JUNE BUGS erupt out of the ground! Those bugs were everywhere by midday Saturday. We were blessed with 3 inches of rain in our part of NC late last week, but it offered up an interesting atmosphere for the trial with all those June bugs.

Folks were supportive of one another, and demonstrable progress was seen in countless handlers and dogs. Judge Carol Calhoun helped many folks out with comments and encouragement. Collin Cleer (and his three dogs) did another fantastic job with setting sheep, despite the heat, humidity and all those blasted June bugs. Classes were large and competitive. Thanks to all of the volunteers who came together again for another great trial: Jason Hunt, Bill Hurd, Tony and Mary Luper, Julie and Tom Mwaniki, Victoria Renz, D. Roberts, Rebecca Shouse, Meagan Skelton and Joan Stout. Special thanks to Steve and Nancy Clendenin for their continued support of the Novice classes. The early bird registration awards went to Julie Poudrier and Rebecca Shouse. A donation jar was set out for the National Finals to be held in Lebanon TN this fall. $126 was raised....Francis, the checks went in the mail an hour ago.

Until next month!

Just wanted to point out that the John Thomas listed in second place in Saturday's ranch class is John Thomas from Wales, who was running Henry Kuykendall's Mist, having only worked her a couple of times (besides running someone else's dog, he was certainly not used to the heat and humidity of the southern US)....

And while Nancy Jackson (climbergirl) is always quick to thank everyone who helps out at the trials, she herself deserves a ton of thanks from the rest of us for the great job she does organizing Steve's trials and keeping them running smoothly--no small task. The fact that this series of trials always goes so well is testament to the hard work that Nancy puts into it before and during each trial. So a big thank you to you, too, Nancy! (And I'm sure I speak for all who attend Steve's trials.)

J.
