Joe Anne
Does anyone know of a herding event, festival or something that takes place in Maryland (I think Gaithersburg or Hagerstown, sometime in the spring like May? Apparently it's an all day thing, sorta like a Fair. Demos, food, fun etc.???? JoeAnne, Mirra, Sitka, Phoenix and crew
SoloRiver
You may be thinking of the Steppingstone Sheepdog Trials in Havre de Grace. They aren't, unfortunately, being held this year.
Eileen Stein
Maybe you're thinking of the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, which will be May 7 & 8 at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, MD. It's a huge event, more about sheep than sheepdogs, but there are two or three sheepdog demonstrations per day. FMI go to their website at http://www.sheepandwool.org/ . There is also a very nice sheepdog trial on the weekend of April 2-3 in Maryland. It's a farm trial at Long Shot Farm in Church Hill, MD, which is on the eastern shore, about 20 minutes from the Bay Bridge. There's no fair or festival, but you would see awesome sheepherding all day long.
Joe Anne
Eileen....That's the one! Thanks..I remember the breeder we got Phoenix from telling me about that, and I couldn't remember the exact name, but when you said "Sheep & Wool"..., my brain kicked in (I'm at the age where I need a jump start now and then!!!).. Thanks again, JoeAnne Mirra, Sitka,Phoenix & crew
Joe Anne
Ooops! forgot...is it appropriate or allowed to take your dog to these demos/festivals? I know they need to behave and such, but I don't want to take Phoenix if it's frowned upon. However on the other hand, I would like to see his reaction to seeing the other dogs and the sheep. SOME DAY???? I hope to have a small farm with sheep and goats at the very least. anyway...thanks again JoeAnne
Pipedream Farm
Ooops! forgot...is it appropriate or allowed to take your dog to these demos/festivals?Jo Anne, I'm sure it says on the main webpage for the Sheep & Wool festival that pets are not allowed. Sorry. Mark
