LakeBumOK
I have a red and white Border Collie whose toenails are all splitting and falling off all 4 feet. They bleed and are very tender to touch. He is a 4 year old male. His also has an extremely low heart rate of 48. Has anyone else ever experienced this type of health issue? Shetlander
No. What does the vet think might be the problem?
Alicia
The only thing I could find was a condition found in Greyhounds where the toenails fall off. http://home.comcast.net/~greyhndz/toenails.htm I also found, but this was in people so may have no correlation, but people with Anorexia may lose their finger and toenails and have a lowered heart rate. Perhaps he is lacking a crucial nutrient? I know he isnt "Anorexic" lol and probably is fat and happy But maybe he is missing a key nutrient that is causing this problem? Or has some other misfunction going on that is abrosbing or not properly using a certain nutrient? I dunno, but I'd for sure want to now what the vet thinks. AK dog doc
I second the vet visit. Once there, you might consider having a thyroid test done. Hypothyroidism can cause bradycardia (low heart rate) as well as poor skin, haircoat and toenails, either from impaired ability to produce the tissues, or infection thereof. Genie
If he were mine, I would have the vet check him, run a full blood panel and even possibly and immune panel.
