Dal & Mad's Mom
More than one person including serious border collie people has suggested the possibility of tatooing Dal's nose for sun protection since skin cancer is high in our area. Would it help or is it really asthetics hiding behind a medical reason?
SoloRiver
I wouldn't do it. I put sunscreen on Solo's nose when we're out all day and reapply as necessary.
nancy
When Fergie was younger, she had a pink patch on the top of her nose - a little square. When we were going to the beach, our vet said we should either keep zinc oxide on it - or color it with black magic marker! She said the marker was actually better because Ferg wouldn't be able to lick it off. We did that for several beach trips in the early years. It was a really small area - less than an inch square. Don't know that I'd do it with a fully pink nose. Ferg's patch has now filled in black like the rest of her nose.
Dixie_Girl
I think I would ask a dermotologist first. My son has some tatoos and he tans where the tatoos are same as the rest of his skin so I don't see how that would be a protection. Plus, the ink is actually under the skin and the top of the epidermis is still exposed. I would ask a pro first before going to the expense and having my dog knocked out!
