Cherle
I have a young friend who adopted a Border Collie from a facility at Camano Island in the last couple of years. The dog was recently diagnosed with cancer and surgery performed was not completely successful. The young lady was able to find a facility in Beaverton, Oregon that will perform radiation and chemo. This is a huge hardship for this young woman and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for assistance. She is flying herself and the dog to Portland next week. I am going to provide room and board for them, but transportation five days a week to treatment for at least the month of January plus the cost of the treatment ($4,000) not to mention having to take unpaid leave from her work is really going to be difficult. Suggestions??
2 Devils
She should contact the rescue organization. They may be willing to post a story about the dog to help with some fundraising efforts. The vets can set up an account for the donations. Denise Wall
How old is the dog and what is the prognosis for the type of cancer it has if its treated?
Cherle
In response to the question of prognosis, Keisha has a stage 2 mass cell tumor and it has gone into lymph nodes. I requested a copy of their pathology report and should have it by tonight. Without treatment, the outlook is very bad. This dog came from Raven's Gate at Camano Island, WA and is living in Juneau AK. I will make some contacts as recommended and I am very thankful for recommendations and suggestions. I will post a photo . . . she is a great example of how lots of love and patience has turned this frightened (likely abused) Border Collie into a real family member. colleydogge
i remember keisha very well - i adopted her to her current owner about 2 and a half years ago. this is very sad, and so young to have cancer. this is the first i've heard of keisha being ill. her owner has not contacted me, but i'm sure we can put something on the website to ask for donations to help with treatment. have her contact me with details. eileen @ ravensgate
Deb B
Hi everyone. My name is Deb and Keisha is my dog. We are leaving Alaska tomorrow to stay with Cheryl while she undergoes radiation treatment. Hopefully she will not need Chemo. The mast cell tumor could not be completely removed and further testing showed it had metastasized to her right scapular lymph node. The lymph nodes around her heart look good, spleen and liver also look good. Her blood work is excellent. She is (other than this nasty tumor) a super healthy dog. She will turn 4 years old on January 6th. Everything I have read so far leads me to believe the radiation will be very effective. Left untreated, she would not be with me much longer. Because of the metastasis we have to start radiation immediately which left little time for planning. Thanks to everyone for your ideas for financial support. This is a hug undertaking for me but I can't even think about her not being here. . .she is my constant shadow.
