Swollen feet

My 9 year old Red Dog has CHD, so it's not abornmal to find him limping sometimes. However, the last while he has been limping on his front legs it looks like. No pad irritations or anything, but he is compulsively cleaning his feet (not to the point of hair loss or irritation though). Last night after our evening run I noticed that all of his feet looked LARGE. He has big feet anyway, but they seemed swollen to me. They definitely looked smaller this morning. (It's not snowing here and there is no salt on the ground)

Red Dog had Lepto two years ago and recovered but I'm worried about permanent damage to his kidneys and resulting fluid retention. He will be going in for a check up and bloodwork, but if anyone has any suggestions ...?

Arthritis in his feet? The compulsive cleaning could be his reaction to pain or discomfort. Have you tried a painkiller or anti-inflammatory just to see if it causes any change in the condition of his feet or licking behavior?

I have never seen fluid retention in feet, even in old cats I've had with kidney failure and the daily SQ fluids I gave (which tended to collect in the elbow area, but not the feet, FWIW). My experience is extremely limited, though--sorry I don't have any other brilliant ideas.

Shoshone's arthritis in her front feet has made those 2 paws very, very large. She will lick them, and the carpus joint (? it corresponds to the human wrist joint) also, particularly if she's been jumping and playing hard.

I'm pretty sure it's the arthritis kicking up. I do notice that her paws are noticeably more swollen at some times than others.

Hope it's something that simple for RD.

Tiga's front paws get swollen and redish between the pads. The vet said it's allergies. He will lick at it if left on his own, but I discourage it. When they seem to get too bad, I soak them in epson salts. They seem to be getting a bit better now that we have snow and it's getting colder.
