Cantello
Our 12 week old BC puppy seems to have a bad case of the runs. He's had this condition for about a day and a half and when he goes to the relieve himself it takes him several "hunches" to empty himself. He has been on the same diet for over a month now with no previous problems and there have been no changes to his lifestyle. What can we do to help clear this problem up for him? Thanks
trailrider
Worry seriously about dehydration especially in such a young dog. That is a long time to be losing nutrients and water. Dogs pick up disease from visiting animals, and can eat anything - even deadly plants and chemicals. A vet trip first thing might be as important as saving his life. I would not wait. Carson Crazies
With a pup that young I believe I'd make a trip to the vet post haste. Run don't walk. Withhold food starting now, give him plenty of water to drink, and make your vet appt right now please.
Sue R
I have to second what Laura C says - get the pup off food, provide water, and get a vet appointment right away. Â It might be nothing much but it could be something very serious. Pups don't have a lot of reserves to call upon when ill, and dehydration can be very serious, as Trailrider pointed out. KelliePup
Ditto on all accounts. And take a stool sample to the vet when you go.
Cantello
Well we took out puppy to the vet the same day we posted this message. The vet told us to give him lots of water and feed him oatmeal. We did this and now everything is ok. Thanks everyone
dulcilama
Good news. I have used a little cornflour in the drinking water to good effect here with pups that have the runs. Not sure what you call it out West...
