sea4th
Totally unscientific, tried to keep the bias out, and I did it for 2 months. I have a friend who swears by it and her dogs do look better, but she was feeding them something pretty awful before, so there's bound to be an improvement. So she raves about Purina One. I feed kibble and raw and I'm not a fan of Purina. but I thought WTH. Purina One is the kibble I fed for two months. Coats---still shiny. Stools----bigger and smell nastier, but firm and well-formed. One dog got funky ear goop----maybe, maybe not the kibble. All in all, not all that bad results except for--- the teeth and their breath. Their teeth now have brown and funky tartar and their breath smells horrendous. Prior to Purina One, I fed Chicken Soup, Solid Gold--- kibble that I considered "better" and never had a foul breath problem with them, even the old timers. Now when they exhale into my face, my stomach does flip flops. That after only two months. I can imagine dogs who have been on this food for years require higher maintenance for dental issues. My friend's dogs' teeth are nasty. So that was our Purina One taste test. Tonight we start back on another kibble.
mleu
Hi, I have just started posting again after not being on this board for quite a while due to getting a masters and a new job... but if I may say - I couldn't agree with you more and that's because I saw the result of feeding Purina for years. My GSDx unfortunately was fed it for the first 3 years of her life and she got to the point where her skin was horrible! She was so uncomfortable in her own skin - itchy, dry, fur was extremely dry like wire. Her teeth had so much tartar. To make a long story short, I went to very good kibble and then went completely to raw. This is what I feed now - raw and I wouldn't go back - ever. Morgan is now healthy and happy. We can sleep at night without her waking us with her itching. Maisie, our BC, was started on raw as soon as I got her (10 wks) and she has done so well! So... you're brave to try it and share what has happened - especially after already giving better food! Emily
border_collie_crazy
before we fed RAW we also fed purina ONE, because at the time it was the only kibble shadow could eat, she threw up every type of kibble but Purina ONE she only threw up once a day rather then 5. however by the time she was 4 the vet said she would not live another year due to premature aging, horrable arthitus, icky teeth dull coat etc.. she could not even stand up anymore after only 4 years, when we got Happy she had reactions right off the bat, thats when we heard about RAW, switched to that and all problems are gone, Shadow is currently 9 years oldm shows NO sign of having arthritus, her teeth are pearly white.. and she has the energy of a young dog. she lives with my friend now eats healthy vitility there, which she actually does quite well on, she hase been on it for over a year now and continues to show no signs of arthitus. as for Happy, well now people are suprised that she is 5 years old, she acts like a puppy and people ask me how old she is and are always in shock when they find out that she is much older then they thought. everyone thinks Misty is a little puppy still that she is only 7-8 months old, she is going on 3. while I consider purina ONE to be ne of the higher quality grocery store brands, I definatly dont endorse the stuff lol
