maxtosh
I have a 10 year old border collie that lifts his back paw while playing from time to time. He usually does it when he suddenly stops. He will lift it for about 20 seconds then put it back down and continue walking. Does this sound like arthritis?
juliepoudrier
Could be. Or it could be his ACL (ligament in the knee). Carrying a hind leg often indicates an ACL/knee issue. Or it could be arthritis caused by an old/ongoing ACL injury. Best to have your vet check--s/he can check the ACL by looking for a drawer sign. It may require sedation (so the dog is relaxed enough to allow manipulation of the knee) but doesn't usually require an X-ray. J.
