Cheri McDonald
Rob went peeling through a mud puddle sideways during our training last night and raked his front dew claw on something. It didn't seem to effect him during his second time on the field with the sheep! This morning it is very sore and tender, but he is walking on the foot. I checked it over and there is a split in the nail and swelling. I hate to mess with it being so sore, should the split piece be clipped off?? Eileen Stein
Every dog I've ever known that this happened to has chewed it down himself, without ill effects. Good luck.
urge to herd
Shoshone keeps her dewclaws chewed to the nub. None of the other nails, mind you, just the dew claws. She yanked one completely out a couple weeks ago, right before Christmas. I just kept an eye on it to make sure there was no infection, and she had no problems with it.
