Tear Stain Sulutions?

Recommended Posts

My 3 month old pup Bella has started getting some tear stains on her left eye (only the left eye), the vet told me about a week ago to just try to clean it with warm water, but it hasn't changed anything. Any suggestions on what I should do? Cleaning, vitamins, medicine etc.. Thank you!

You can ask your vet about Iams Prostora. It's a probiotic supplement that has been successfully used to resolve tear staining in dogs. Rather expensive though IMHO for a cosmetic problem. Generally the BC pups outgrow it.

This definitely isn't the case for every dog, but something to be aware of. My dog with food sensitivities gets tear stains on some of the foods he has issues with, so it's a good idea to be on the look out for other signs of food sensitivity issues.

My oldest Papillon gets tear stains because shes so close to the ground there is often dust etc in her face makes her tear a little on a regular basis. Stains will eventually fade if you keep her face clean, we wipe every morning with a corner of a washcloth and warm water (make sure anything dried gets softened by the water). Shes grown to like the attention, it takes a few seconds (she comes in the bathroom when I am washing my own face in the AM) and I don't worry about meds or other stuff.
