Rebecca, Irena Farm
I understand you can now purchase "Cleanrun sneakers." http://www.cleanrun.com/category.cfm?Categ...FTOKEN=49504276 Has anyone tried these? If so, what are they - light cross trainers? I'm supposed to wear sneakers but never do because I hate how heavy the ones with proper support, are. So I'm always on the lookout for something new. airbear
The AG shoes are basically running shoes that have a lot of tread. The people I know that have them like them because they feel just like a running shoe, but they have enough tread that they can run on wet surfaces and not slip. On the con side, they are not water resistant, and one friend found the soles too 'high' for running agility. She felt that she could turn an ankle too easily. On the off chance you're looking for a turf shoe that's waterproof, I prefer the Ditas. They are light enough to wear all day and, given that they are field hockey boots, have incredible traction. I've had the Turf Lites for 3 years and have never had a problem with traction, even on really slippery courses. http://www.cleanrun.com/category.cfm?Categ...FTOKEN=49504276
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Hey closeout sale! Woo hoo! Those look good. Never thought of looking for agility shoes for working sheep in. Actually, I never thought there would be such a thing. Silly me. I have field shoes of course but they are horrendous for lots of circling and walking backwards and turning, etc. I'm taking the day off from training today in spite of perfect weather, becuase I slipped AGAIN yesterday (wearing my cross trainers) and AGAIN messed up my knee. SoloRiver
I would be careful about getting shoes with too much tread. It would be easy to get stuck with a planted foot. I've never felt like I needed a shoe just for agility, but I am also not as active a competitor as lots of other people, so... If I were you I'd go to http://www.sierratradingpost.com, or maybe http://www.rei-outlet.com, and look for a sale on a lightweight low hiker or a trail running shoe. The latter would be lighter, and you will be able to find something that is waterproof, probably for less than you'd pay for the Ditas or Clean Run shoes. 2 Devils
I have heard that many agility folks will actually buy soccer cleats. There are many kinds and are lightweight. If you can only going to where them for a couple hours, cleats would probably work well. You can make them more comfy by adding cushioned insoles... And cleats are cheap. I have a pair that I bought 4 years ago - I play on 2 teams and play about 8 months out of the year. I paid $20 for them. It is time for a new pair though. airbear
Soccer cleats work very well too, but I have a problem with, um, stepping on my dogs so I don't want anything too hard. The Ditas are turf shoes (made for artificial turf, I understand) and instead of cleats have little rubber nubs. Now I can step on my dogs without worry of splitting their feet! I HAVE worn them herding, since I do much more running than the dog. No problem with the plant-and-twist, but I can see that a longer cleat might be problematic. Oh, and the Ditas are on sale right now - about $30 if you can find your size.
2 Devils
In soccer cleats you Turfs - outdoor play but low cleat - better for dry field Regular - cleat good whenever Indoor - for indoor/astroturf play
Alaska
There was a huge discussion recently about the pros and cons (and sizing) of the different shoes Clean Run sells on the cleanrun mailing list (yahoo group).
