marself
I posted this topic a few months ago: http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.php?showtopic=38150&hl= Joe is almost 5 months now and I'm seriously starting to doubt about his breed. Anyway, the person that gave it to me is pretty sure that his father is a border collie. I don't mind about his breed a lot, but I would like to know if he is going to be a giant dog as the spanish mastiff is. I have been controlling his weight: 60 days: 10.36 lbs 90 days: 22.44 lbs 120 days: 34.52 lbs 140 days: 42.99 lbs He is cute and very intelligent, but he isn't nervous at all. Thank you very much for your help!

Cass C
Based on face shape it could be a lab mix, but it's hard to tell at that age.
aschlemm
Uh, by my calculation he should end up around 70 pounds. I hope you don't mind that. He's a beautiful dog! I really love the third picture. His happy grin and little, bitty, puppy teeth!!!! Why is his left front leg shaved? Nothing wrong, I hope. urge to herd
He looks to me like a basic street dog - and he's probably going to be over 50 lbs. For some reason, he looks like he's got some sort of hound(s) in his genes. Can't put my finger on why I think that. Lab mix is as good a description as the next. However, there are smooth coated border collies, and some pretty large border collies, 60 lbs is not unheard of. I'd wait for his behavior to develop more as he settles in to your home and life. If he starts the bc crouch/eye/stalk routine, he could have some bc back there somewhere, too. Whatever he is, he came out cute, cute, cute! And lucky to have found you! GentleLake
However, there are smooth coated border collies, and some pretty large border collies, 60 lbs is not unheard of. There was a pup in one of the 2 litters I bred who was 70 lbs when he was a year old! And he was a typical skinny adolescent at the time, so I'm sure he added a couple pounds when he filled out as an adult. I know for a fact there were no other sires hiding in the woodpile. This pup does look like he could be a mix, though. But no telling at this young age.
SS Cressa
He is cute. Love his smile! So any idea who the daddy was if not the black and white border collie? He would still be 1/2 border collie... right since his mom was a merle border collie? Or are you doubting the parents as a whole?

Also because I have been feeding him thinking about a medium dog, but maybe he needed a different kind of food so he could grow slower and better to be a big dog. Anyway, he is healthy, we neutered him a few weeks ago. That's the reason of the shaved leg.

Ruth and SuperGibbs He always play with other dogs doing that crouch/eye/stalk routine. I'm pretty sure of his border collie half, not so sure about the rest haha. About the daddy... the only thing I know is that there were some spanish mastiffs at the place. He is for sure half border collie since his siblings were there and they were all around the mother all the time. Also he has some border collie behaviours.
