Not sure if this should be here or in General.

I have a female that is 3 yrs old a friend has a male that is 6 months. Both have prick ears.

Hers are set farther apart on her head than his is. Will his get wider as he matures? Are the ear sets genetic?

Didn't notice before but I have him while they are on vacation and when I took a picture of them together you really notice the difference.

Thanks

Jan

Ear sets in BC vary all over the place. Not just prick/flop/tipped/air-plane, but how wide and far apart they are. Honestly, where they are on the head doesn't change very much, though, and if anything sometimes end up a bit further apart, depending on how the head fills out.

I don't believe that changes very much. Our prick ear dog has very low set ears. So low that when he's not at full attention the tops of his ears are completely horizontal. He gets called Delta thanks to his new variety of "airplane ears"!

But I haven't seen any dog really change the placement of their ears. They usually stay high, low, or in between.

Pretty sure it's unique to the dog. People always say how pretty Kieran looks (he has this alert expression with prick ears), but I say it's only his public face. Inside the house, he looks like a dopey seal because he always keeps them pinned back unless listening for food.
