Shetlander
I think all my friends with dogs, local friends and agility ones all work, I see no reason why a dog can't hang out at home my own dogs have never caused any problems and I don't crate once they have reached the trustworthy point. Same here. I find the cultural differences on this topic interesting. In the US, the days of thinking someone needed to "be home for the dog," started to fade out in the 80's. Back then, I came across a little book called The Weekend Dog when I was getting my first dog as an adult. That was my introduction to crate training, which at the time I wasn't totally comfortable with (it was very revolutionary back then!) The book did a great job of explaining how crating could be incredibly helpful for training a dog, especially if you worked all day. And I appreciated that the author believed you could offer a wonderful home for a dog despite being a working stiff.
