alex holt
Looking for some advice on our border collie puppy 8 month male not neutered who is chewing everything in site. We excerise him regulary. He has lots of toys and we interact with him regularly. Some one is always home. He is never left alone at home too long my wife is home all day. We love our dog and need advise for fellow collie owners/breeder who may have experience or insight. He will be neutered this week as part of the SPCA agreement when we got him as a pup. Any assistance is welcomed and thanks. The Holt Family
KMae
Your dog is at the age where you see an increase in chewing because their adult teeth are settling into their gums and it hurts. The first thing you want to do when you see him chewing on an unsuitable object is redirect his behavior onto a correct toy. When you see him chewing, say Uhh-Uhhh and give him a toy, if he shows ANY interest in the toy praise him and twll him GOod Dog! Keep doing this and he will catch on. You can also try to limit the appeal of the items he is chewing by spraying them with bitter apple spray (available at most pet stores). Give him some ice cubes when he is really chewing - it will soothe his gums a lot as well. Hope this helps!
