SamS
Does anyone have any tips for getting your dog used to doing obedience exercises indoors? So far, I have been training my BC in my house and taking her to pet stores to practice. She does not like the slippery floors in the pet stores. Has anyone had success with these: http://pawzdogboots.com/about/ or something similar? Thanks
mickif
Might want to have her just get used to walking on slippery floors before you ask for any behavior, baby steps. Just reward her for taking a step first
SamS
She is fine with just walking around the store most of the time. Sometimes the carts or the fish tanks scare her. Mostly it seems she is slower to respond to my commands; she is also much less enthusiastic. Occasionally we turn corners and she becomes frightened (she does this commonly near the dog grooming area-could she be smelling the other dogs fear?). mickif- Thanks for the advice. I think we will just practice on loose lead walking in the pet store for a while.
mickif
Well, there's are a lot of distractions! Have you practiced anywhere other than the house? If so good, if not I would think pet stores are a big jump for most dogs.
Pam Wolf
any training clubs near you where you could work your dog on the side? As for floors, there are products (like tacky paw) to help with the slipping. Remember a place like a pet store has high distraction so this will reflect on how well proofed your dog is to distractions.
SamS
mickif- We mostly train outside in various locations. On hot days, we train indoors. Pam- I will look into that. She deals fine with distractions outside. Perhaps distractions from food and toys are more alluring than squirrels, other dogs, or birds outside.
