Lewis Moon
Seeka just ate a pair if DWs good work shoes. I know why; at 15 months she's probably in the last part (hopefully) of her second chewing phase and the shoes are tasty and smell like DW. This was a shot across our bow for us and we'll do better about keeping things up. However, to give her something to chew, is there some semi-indestructable chewie you might recommend? I say semi-indestructable in that we have the super-hard Nylabones and they get roundly ignored. Cerb can take a Kong apart in 12.2 seconds and will probably take one away from Seeka, so I need something relatively attractive and cheap that I can sprinkle about the house. Rawhide bones don't last, either.
Shetlander
Well, I wouldn't call these attractive or cheap, but they have held up to Quinn which is truly amazing. He also spits out pieces of Black Kong within minutes of tackling one, but so far (after a couple of months) the two Goughnuts toys have only the most superficial of scratches on them. He probably prefers gnawing on big knobby Nylabone rings because he can make progress on destroying those eventually, but he enjoys the Goughnuts toys also. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042JYSN0/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Rave
Antlers are great chews and loved by every dog I know.
rushdoggie
I am pretty happy with the antlers...they actually sat around on the floor for a coupe of weeks and I was beginning to think they were really expensive trip hazards. But one day the puppy tried one out and then has been chewing on them regularly. The foster Pap really liked them too and would even roll on them (I guess they have some gamey smell only a dog can detect). They really last, too. Sue R
As for antler chews, where do you find them to be most reasonably priced and what size do you get (medium or large?)? I'm interested in checking them out.

Rawhide bones don't last, either. Our local feed store carries hooves for $1 or $2, and they last a pretty good amount of time. They also carry assorted bones (non-rawhide). Cerb basically ignored the antlers until I used a little ingenuity: I heated up some chicken broth almost to boiling and let the antler sit in it until it stopped off-gassing. Of course Cerb then proceeded to destroy it. I also would like to find a cheaper antler source (other than the 30.06).
Laura L
Antlers that the dogs have found in the woods or cow hooves (we actually buy those). Laura
Rave
The absolute best price is if you can find them yourself, but I've only ever found one this way. The next best price and selection I have found are people who vend at agility trials. However, there are a few online sources with reasonable prices, like this place: http://www.elkusa.com/antler-chew.html I like to pick my own since my dogs prefer the thinner-walled ones. Shetlander
Cerb can take a Kong apart in 12.2 seconds and will probably take one away from Seeka, Not that you asked about this, but after dealing with a rivalry that has turned rather unpleasant between Quinn and the Lhasa, I just wanted to resond to the above quote. If by Cerb taking a Kong away from Seeka, you mean he will eventually get his jaws on it and proceed to destroy it, I totally get what you are saying. That is why you see so few toys and none of them soft and squeaky laying around my house. Quinn ruins all but the toughest toy quickly, even with supervision. And there usually is one toy that both dumb boy dogs decide they want and which changes possession repeatedly as soon as one dog leaves it unattended. What I have personally decided is no longer acceptable for my pack is for one dog to actually take a toy from another or try to intimidate the other dog into giving it up. My experience is it can lead to thornier issues and problems down the road and I intercede the instant I notice that sort of thing. Sorry for butting in with the tangent. But some things I have learned the hard way and too slowly.
SecretBC
Antlers, hooves, Nylabones (the white, super-durable ones) and bully sticks are all a hit in my house for the chewers. If you are looking for something more in the "toy" department that still qualifies as "durable," check out any of the Zogoflex toys from WestPaw Designs. I have a Hurley that is almost a year old that has *zero* tooth marks in it. Frankly, I think it's some sort of freaky alien material or something. I got a couple Bumi toys made of the same material, thinking they would be better for tugging than the Hurley -- I left Secret unsupervised with them (as I do the Hurley with no problem) and she did bite the ends off each. I still have to send them in for free replacement. I'm tempted to ask for a couple of Hurley toys instead. They make several other toys in the Zogoflex material, depending on what type of toy trips your dog's trigger.

Cerb will loiter around acting (not altogether) nonchalant until Seeks decides to do something else for a minute, then the sculking bandit strikes. Laura L
I agree about the Zogoflex toys, except for the frisbee. Twinkie put a hole in that in less than 4 throws and if I hadn't thrown it on the roof of the shed it would have gone in the garbage. The 3 other toys we got from them though are tough and still being played with. Zoe especially likes the Bumi, it's great in the water. Jedismom
For inexpensive deer antlers, you might try someone who processes deer for venison for the folks who hunt. They gave us a huge bag of them for free when we asked.

arf2184
We have a Tux toy here (by West Paw Design: http://www.westpawdesign.com/catalog/dogs/dog-toys/eco-friendly-dog-toys/eco-friendly-products/tux). Bear likes to have something in his mouth pretty much anytime he's awake and he really likes Tux. Its a little bit squishy and he has fun chewing on it. Meg likes it because when she drops it, it bounces in another direction and she can chase it. Its also gauranteed...if your dog destroys it, they'll send you another one (be sure to send the old one back for recylcing). I also like that they are made in Montana (not China or who knows where). I bought the 3 we have which are medium sized for about $20 I think at a dog show (packaged together) because Argos can demolish a bull pizzle in .05 seconds and I couldn't afford to keep him in chews. So, a little pricey but not too bad. Years ago I had a Dalmatian who could demolish anything and I got him a Galileo bone from Nylabone. He did crack a tooth on it eventually...but even with the extraction it was still less expensive than all the non-food items he would have destroyed without it. His chew drive was out of control... ejano
Marrow bones...we seemingly have an entire cow skeleton in our TV room but they enjoy sorting through them and picking out "the bone" for the evening. To make them even more enticing, occasionally stuff with a mixture of bread and peanut butter, frozen for a short time. This is the only toy I've given my pets that has lasted, though those little round rubber tire things (the colored ones, not the ones made of tennis ball covering) lasted pretty well, but they didn't chew them. We just played games with them. (My aunt stopped by after a rummage sale with a trunk full of stuffed animals. Are you still feeding these to your dogs? she inquired lightly, obviously remembering the days when DH let the pups run a muck...stuffing everywhere! No -said I. No, we don't. ) Liz
