Oh, I really hope they do well! Tommy and one of his dogs made it into the semi-final in 2005 (along with Scott Glen, and Pleat?), and I never tire of watching him run a dog - especially not the good little Sly.

Very best of luck to both of them, and to all teams running!

Anne Mock and Ben just posted a 181 too

I have had the priviledge of meeting Anne at Gettysburg - she was totally kind to me, very welcoming, and ready to answer any questions (or comments) I had about what was going on on the field.

I only wish I could be there to cheer Team USA on! As well as all the other wonderful teams on the field.

Go to the linked page above. Team members have a "T" and the captain has a "C".

From the top of the linked page....

There are 80 dogs running on each of three fields, over two days. The first digit of the run number tells you which field they qualify on, and the second two indicate which day and roughly what time - digits 01 to 40 indicate day one and digits 41 to 80 day two.

Each nation with five or more different handlers may enter a team of five to compete for the team prizes. The nominated captain may adjust the team provided they do so at the latest the day before the competition starts, and preferably before the programme is printed.

From the Rules

Section 2 subsection 5.

Five competitors from a country may be nominated by that National Organisation (i.e. USBCHA) to select one dog each, to form a team and be entered in the team competition that occurs while qualifying trials take place. Nations that are geographically related, but with insufficient numbers to make separate teams, may apply to the Trials Committee to form a pan-National team.

Channel4 is covering the finals on TV in the UK.

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-world-sheep-dog-trials

First episode is already up on 4OD (Four on Demand)

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-world-sheep-dog-trials/episode-guide/series-1

It would appear that it is restricted geographically as to whom can see the videos as from Canada I get the 'not available in your region'. VPN/Proxy trickery should be able to get around that (but I haven't tried it yet to confirm).

Apparently show uses HD cameras, GPS tracking, accelerometers on the dogs, heart rate monitors on the sheep and slow motion replays.
