skip2milou
Ten days ago my young border collie was trying desparately to get my other border collie to play with him. Of course he did this on gravel & in doing so he ripped his pad all up. It is still bad. Does any one have any recommendations on healing recommendations & how to prevent it in the future? He is a red merle so does seem to have softer pads than my other dog. He is also my flyball dog. He always needs to have his stopper pads wrapped or he will come away with them bleeding. At the moment it is the main pad that is damaged.
Derek
There is a product called Tuff Foot that toughens the pads. It does help. Hound hunters use it when hunting in rocky areas. Old timers dipped there hunting dogs pads in kerosene to toughen their feet. Don't know if that works or not but they did it. Gravel in the kennel also helps keep them toughened up. If kenneled in sandy soil they will get very soft and split easily. Derek
