luv2napp
Danny has come along so well. A lot of changes has been made around here. He no longer is made to stay in his crate because it stresses him out so much. He sleeps in our room at night in my closet. He has a nice bed in there and feels safe. When I need to leave the house, he stays in the spare room that has his kennel. The kennel door is open and he has the run of the room. He seems content with this at the moment. He did great during the holidays. After initially barking quite a bit when family was here, he settled down upstairs in his room, coming down once in a while to check on things and make sure I was still here. I'm always being watched. I will say that I reached a very high stress threshold right before Christmas because he still refused to walk outside. I was totally worn out and couldn't take much more physically. So we decided to take the jump and have a fence built. It was installed on Christmas Eve and has made a world of difference. Both Danny's and my stress levels have completely dimished!! Danny now goes out back and does his business and even initiates play with Lacee. Now I can slowly start working on his walking outside, without the stress of pushing him. We can take our time. Life is good!!! It's so wonderful to see him happy and adjusting to our family. He still doesn't play much, so I need to figure out what I can do with him in the house to keep him busy. He's just so content to just be with me, that I don't worry too much. I think he's happy just to be clean, warm and loved finally. Lacee is definately still #1 and doesn't let Danny forget it. They will play a little together, but then she puts him in his place and he goes off to his sleep spot. I've attached a few updated pics. In one of them, Danny had taken a seat cushion off the desk chair that is in his room and, well you can see for yourself. Don't let his innocent face and beautiful eyes fool ya. He can be a devil when he wants to! Danny knew he did something wrong. He likes to sleep on the bench in our bedroom once in a while. But he has to share with his Daddy when he's getting ready for work in the morning. Enjoying the backyard! Just a beautiful face! Those eyes! A good pic of them together. Can we go in yet? aljones
Thanks for this update on handsome (if somewhat mischievous) Danny! I have serious fence envy after seeing your lovely fence, and it sounds like it was an investment that started paying off immediately for both you and Danny! I'm really glad to hear things are going so well and that everyone weathered the holidays successfully...here's to many more good days, weeks, months, and years with Danny! ShoresDog
Glad to hear Danny's coming along. The fence was his best Christmas gift ever, apparently!
Izzysdad
Yay! So funny that he sleeps in the closet, Zoey did the same thing for a few months and now feels safe enough to sleep on the bed with us, which is nice. So glad to hear more of his progress
bcnewe2
In 10 years you won't even remember this. how do I konw, cause you just brought back memories of Raven sleeping in our closet, heck living in our closet for 3 months. People that met her back then and see her now don't believe she is the same scardie cat dog that she once was. She's a reg. dog now, including sleeping on the couch and loving on new visitors. They are well worth the hassles. And I'm sure Danny thanks you very much for your efforts! Fence and all!
urge to herd
Danny's adorable - glad he's settling in. Shoshone still sleeps in my closet. Once that dog finds something that works for her, she sticks to it. She will jump down from my bed if I put her there. Ruth

Thank you for your continued work with him, he is obviously totally worth it! Thanks for your kind words. Yes, he is totally worth every penny we've put into him! As my husband puts it, "our $300 rescue is turning into quite an expensive dog!". Good quality food, crates, pet behaviorist, fence, and now we're thinking of getting a patio so I can sit out back and enjoy playing with him (and hopefully keep some of the mud off ). We still have a long way to go, but we'll make it through.
