MyTDogs
I have been thinking about getting another dog. I started my search thinking it would take a few months, a year even, to find a good breeding. Well of course I found out about an awesome cross. According to the U/S there are 10 pups & I could get 8th pick. The pups are due the beginning of the year so I would be bringing home a pup in March! I know there may be issues that prevent things from working out but I am really nervous. I have less than a month to decide if I am serious about one of these pups. Help!! SecretBC
I think anyone who isn't slightly apprehensive about bringing home a puppy is weird. Puppies are a huge life-changing event and it's good to think twice (or three or four or five times) before bringing one home. That said, it sounds like you decided it was an appropriate time to add a dog to your family before you found this litter. I think you may just be experiencing cold feet that is pretty common before committing to something so big. Ideally, before committing to bringing a new puppy home you will know that you have the main two resources available: Time and Money. If adding another dog will tax you financially, it is probably not the most responsible thing to do. I kind of failed on that one... I found Secret on a rescue site two months after Luke was diagnosed with Addison's Disease. I knew that I should probably NOT add another dog for a minimum of six months while I caught up on the vet bills -- But something about her just couldn't let me pass it up. Time is a big one for some people. Puppies require a lot of time -- Both in lost sleep, extra trips home to let them out frequently, training, etc. For example, I know that now would not be a good time for me to add a puppy to my house because I am now working two jobs (to make up for the financial crunch caused by adding another dog a year ago...). In addition to my schedule not working well with a puppy's potty schedule, I know that I would fall over and die if I lost any more sleep. lol My recent foster dog also showed me that I simply do not have the time to focus on training four dogs at this time, either. So, assuming you have thought through those two big factors and still find yourself wanting this puppy -- Go for it! And be sure to share pictures. All the serious stuff has been said, so I can only add that spring is a great time to start off with a pup!
bn_here_b4
March? Spring is just around the corner! I would be ready to go for it. All else in place (time, space and money) by March the winter should be on the way out. Of course the only thing that keeps me from having bunches of dogs is the fact that my husband would be furious. He says there is a two dog limit. So you probably shouldn't listen to me on this. I definitely lack common sense where the addition of pets is concerned. Good luck with your decision.
