Jeanne Joy
Ray, I wish more judges would step up to the plate. I think it would give handlers a lot more incentive to retire when things go poorly rather than wait for the judge to.
Donald McCaig
Dear Sheepdoggers, In the UK, times tend to be longer than here but the judge is more willing to call handler's off for "Failure to make progress." Cumulative scores toward a Sunday Finals run, big running orders and some associations' rules make the UK strategy unusual here. Correct pace varies from dog to dog and sheep to sheep but because we must get through a great number of dogs in a day, we reward speed demons. Very few judges penalize handlers for running sheep around the course, provided they maintain their lines, hit the panels and the sheep don't take revenge inbye. My trial has a tricky 500 yard outrun and we use commercial polypays. Under our conditions with a split, pen, shed fifteen minutes was not too much time.
