Laura L
Am I missing it on the USBCHA website? What size is the pen supposed to be in a trial? Thanks, Laura
Mark Billadeau
I don't believe the size is specified (the length of the rope is specified) in the bylaws. The pen size is specified in the ISDS rule book for the nationals and international. Pen 9 feet x 8 feet wide with a gate 8 feet wide, secured by a rope 6feet long. The gate must open to not less than 170 degrees. I have seen various sizes at USBCHA sanctioned trials.
Laura L
So the 8 x 8 pen that's been used for the last 5 trials at my place is fine. I was needlessly tormented for almost 8 hours over the weekend by the person who was building a pen because our club's is the "wrong" size. Mark Billadeau
Is the pen size specified in your club's rule book? If not, have this person provide the source of the "approved and correct" pen size.
Laura L
The club doesn't have a rulebook. This came from out of the blue, I'm not sure why he even got started on it. Thanks for the answer Mark. Laura
juliepoudrier
It would seem to me that as long as the size of the pen is adequate to hold the number of sheep being put in to it, with a little room to spare so you're not having to shove them in, then it should be fine. Tell the guy who's worried about pen size to worry about something else. J.
