Guest newguy
Just wondering at what point in a dogs training do most people start teaching side? I do not attempt to teach a side command untill my dog can outrun at least 200yards and drive away 100 yards with very few steady commands. I believe that teaching sides too soon on a dog can take away alot of there ability to think about moving and controlling stock. Remember the object is to move stock from point A to point B with the least amount of stress to the stock as possible(unless you are late for a party ) as possible. Bill Fosher
I'll start using the side commands much sooner than that, but I won't start asking for off-balance flanks much earlier than the point you describe. ------------------ Bill Fosher Surry, NH
Guest PrairieFire
I pretty much fit in with Bill F. I don't think "natural" flanks cause stress...or natural "work" of any kind, for that matter. ------------------ Bill Gary Kensmuir, Working Stockdog Center River Falls, WI 715.426.9877 www.kensmuir.com [This message has been edited by PrairieFire (edited 10-25-2002).]
