RoseAmy
In another thread the number of years it takes to get to open came up. But lately I've been thinking about how many miles! Remember my wild child? Well I guess all the running and blockingand wearing and walking her down (zillion miles right there) have paid off. Now we are trying to polish up the drive and the outrun. So I wallk..we get some sheep and I let her drive and drive and drive with me walking behind or off to the side. LIttle flanks-change the line-and walk some more. Then I call her off and we WALK to the other side of the field, I leave her and I WALK back towards the sheep and send her. As she fetches them to be I turn and we drive and walk and drive and walk. And so on and on it goes. Right now how many years to get her to open isn't on my mind its how many miles to I have to walk to get her there. martySQ
LOL... I don't know...but can you tell me how many miles a day I need to be walking to get ready to start my dog on sheep? I walk about 3 miles a day ...and probably need to start pacticing getting some endurance walking backwards also...! Good question, I like the way you mark time! Mark Billadeau
I think I said how many years for a dog to be competative in open (rule of thumb); all that is required to get into open is walking out to the post and sending your dog. So there you have it, a measure of how many "miles" to get to open (the distance walking out to the post). The walk of shame/embarrassment (collecting your dog) is MUCH longer than the walk to the post. Mark (smart a$$)
