Gangly adolescent.

Recommended Posts

At ~15 weeks, Cerbie has officially reached the “Jeremy Stage”. Just like Jeremy from the “Zits” cartoon, Cerb is all gangly legs and big feet. We’re still not sure what traits he got from his (probable) Labrador genes, but from his big paws, 19 lb (and steadily increasing) weight and 16” height at the shoulder, the Vet indicated (with a smirk) that we should soon move him to “Large Breed” dog food. Cerbie is going to be a big boy. A power forward rather than a guard, to use basketball terms.

They grow up so fast….sigh…. Pictures at 11.

Yeah, pictures!

And, not for nothing, but you know, he may not grow into the Jolly Green Giant. A good guesstimate for adult weight is to double their weight at 4 months, so, Cerbie *may* only get to about 45 lbs. That's a very typical weight for a male border collie. Now, take that with a grain of salt, but the 4 month thing was pretty accurate for my dogs.

PS. And I wouldn't put him on a "large breed" food. At his age, you want slow, steady growth and that's best done with an adult food, actually. Just my opinion.

That was really interesting about doubling their weight. My puppy is currently 4 months, and he weighs 20lbs... we were starting to think he was gonna be huge. However our adult females BCs are both around 50 lbs. So if the estimating works, he should be only about their size! Good to know haha
