BustopherJones
Last night, I attended the Frisbee competition in Wallingford, CT, and Annie went with me (as an observer). Now, Annie is as loving and mellow a dog as you will ever find. She had a great time making friends with other dogs and with people, most notably small children; when interfacing with children, her demeanor changes, she assumes a submissive position, allows herself to be petted, and ?kisses? the kids gently. Anyway, to make a long story short (yes, I know, it?s too late already), occasionally Annie would decide that she was going to watch proceedings from my lap, and would jump up and rest there for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. (Fortunately, Annie only weighs 32 pounds, and I have a rather large lap.) What I found interesting was the number of people who walked by and commented (nicely) in a surprised manner about my ?lap dog.? Hence, my question: Does anyone else have a BC that likes to sit in his/her lap? Just curious?
r b m
Sienna will only sit in my lap after a very long day of hard work and play. Otherwise, she is not so patient sitting in one place at one time.
sandra s.
Yes I was wondering the same thing today. We were in the city, waiting for this semester's last lecture to begin. It was HOT! I was sitting under a tree in the shade and she was lying in the grass. Then she got up and walked around a bit, and came back and sat on my lap . She sometimes does that when she's bored and wants some attention, but it was hot enough already so she probably had a good reason to go sit on top of me where it's even warmer (for both of us). I'd love to know what reason that was!
TheStacks
Zoey loves to sit on people's laps. But she actually prefers to rest her behind on our shoulders or chest to see better. She may be part parrot.
Dog Lady
Zoey, certainly sounds like a parrot or even a lamb! Sophie likes to have lots of cuddles, and only sits on my lap when I let her though. She will lie on top of me if I am taking a rest on the couch. So are all BC so affectionate? Kitch
Dublin is smart enough to realize that he no longer fits on my lap (he is ~45 pounds) but he loves to lounge on me when I am on the couch. He sprawls his upper half across me and is happy. Mick hasn't quite figured out yet that he is too big to be a lap dog, so he still tries... RaisingRiver
If I sit on the floor cross-legged River will come over and curl into my lap - just like she did when she was a pup, cuz that's where I'd put her. She also lays on the couch with me while I watch tv, often with a body part touching me. She's also a dog/people lover.
mado
how strange ...Tamyr could not stand one second even if I tried to force her , which I've never done but I did ask her when she was a pup ... it was like asking her to do something bad , and she looked at me like I was pushing drugs on her !!! She loves to be brushed and petted and all , but climbing on people -or beds- is just not an option , although I wouldn't mind in winter ... She wasn't even raised like that as I'm practically the first person she met , and I'm pretty mellow
Corey
I will aslo vouch that Holly will sit in my lap. Almost everynight I will head to the couch, and watch some Daily Show. She then knows it's cuddle time She will then lay on her back and rest her head on my shoulder and her paw on my chest.
Deneen
We used to let Sarah sit on our laps when she was a puppy, so she still occassionally will sit on my lap (or rest her butt on my legs). She is 55 lbs now. We adopted Sydney when she was full-grown, so I don't think she understands the concept of sitting on my lap. ~Kelly
Cheri McDonald
I have a 50 pound lap dog. Rob likes nothing better than to "share" the recliner with me. He is also the one that will back up and sit in your layp if you are sitting on the floor. Buddy has the need to be in contact with me when I sit down, whether it is his paw touching me or his chin that is all he seems to need. Briar goes 24/7 but when she does stop for a second she is my spooner and will lay with me while I read at night.
Bordercentrics
Ruby is the most excitable, active, high-drive Border Collie I have met. But after her endless laps around the yard, chasing tennis balls and birds, and training lessons, she settles down in the house. When she is settled, she climbs into my lap when I'm in my recliner, and enjoys petting for five or ten minutes.
katydid & Furry Friends
My 12 yr old still likes to sit on my lap for cuddles. When I first got him and knew nothing he used to get on the foot stool bark and hit me with his paw to sit down so he could sit he was 11 mos then. I thought it was wonderful someone told me your letting him boss me around ...so I told him don't do it when anyone is around....LOL Katie
Allie+Tess&Kipp
Kipp sits in laps. Makes it easier to pet him, he says. Allie + Tess & Kipp http://weebordercollie.com
Anda
Ouzo is not very cuddly, only when he wants to, and for about a minute, max, then he's done, he's got better things to do: like stock toys or put slubbery toys in your lap and then get in position in case you will throw it. Or steal stuff to make him chase him around the house. I wish he would be more cuddling. Maybe as he grows up he will settle more.

Tammy525
Scout puts his top half in your lap and likes to lay his head between your knees. He only sits all the way on my lap if he thinks I am going to leave him. Then he curls up very tightly (all 50 lbs of him, he can make himself pretty small) and rests his head in the crook of my elbow. He is VERY affectionate all the time, but is also very polite about leaving you alone when he needs to. If he is not draped over you, he is laying beside you with as much body contact as possible. He is a BC/lab mix. Scout only gets up on the back of the couch if there is someone outside he is keeping his eye on. (like dh working on the pool, etc.)
