Our Travis has crossed over to a better place

At the end of July, our wonderful Border Collie, Travis the Trickless WonderDog, died at home of a stroke. He was 15 years and 7 months old.

My husband and I both cried a river (as I'm sure you all can imagine). We were so sad that I didn’t go on the Internet much; every time I checked into the BC Boards, I would see “shadows” of Travis, and I simply couldn’t handle it until now.

Several weeks ago, we adopted another Border Collie, a male who is almost six years old. He came from a terribly rough background and is painfully shy and fearful. I’ll be writing more about him elsewhere on these Boards, but I just wanted to post a memorial about Travis here.

Romp in peace, our beautiful Travis, until we see you again; and thank you for sending us a fellow Border Collie who needs our help. We honor you as we reach out to another.

15 years and 7 months.....isn't it amazing how fast the time went. Travis, the trickless wonderdog, will always be a special part of you. He will prod your memory to give you the wisdom and the patience to help your new dog reach his full potential. So sorry for your loss, I know how painfull it is.

Thank you, Cody and Duchess, for your kind words. I feel better being back here among all these good BC people like you.

We are coming to the point where we remember Travis more with joy than with sadness, but I'm still crying as I type this (go figure!)

Oh, I am sorry for your loss of Travis, and I definitely understand the slow, gradual shift from sadness to remembering the joy instead. I am sure your new companion will benefit greatly from all the lessons Travis taught you and your husband over the years.

We never have enough time with them. /when I got Jin and showed him to my therapist I told her that and cried.

I am not at home but there is a place in my gardens for puppies to dance.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It is a good time for you when the memories bring more smiles than tears, and that takes some time. Thank you for rescuing a needy dog who will make his own place in your heart.

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,

I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.

I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free

Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side

Were meadows rich and beautiful - lush and green and wide;

And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see

Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be.

My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new

And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright,

That this place is truly wonderful; then a bright glow pierced the night.

Twas the glow of many candles, shining bright and strong and bold;

And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be

We are still connected by a cord no one can see.

So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart

If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

Mary, I am still crying for Travis and you. Buster and I remember him with love, even though we never got to meet him in person. You should probably tell the new guy all about Travis, it will probably help both of you. Hugs and doggy kisses.

Travis was a fortunate fellow to have been loved for so long - When I read this, it sounds like it was written by Travis...just for you.

Run free and easy Travis

Remember Me!

Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long.

I have tried always to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life.

I never wanted to cause you pain.

Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the earth I have loved so well.

Please, after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another.

You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love.

Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory for too long.

Give your love to another.

I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something very special.

It may not be quite the same, but a new devoted and loving companion will in time, become special in their own way.

You loved me very much and I loved you.

My spirit will always be with you, and no matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.
