hey_jude
Does anyone want to get me to change my mind at last minute? I probably researched the food thing way too much, but once I got started there was so much information there. I decided to do a lifestages food for my 8 week old puppy instead of a puppy food, and went with Fromm Duck & Sweet Potato 4 Star Nutritionals as his first food. What I liked about Fromm were all of the natural ingredients, that it had a little grain versus none (I was worried about grain free for a puppy, IDK if that was legit but couldn't find a good answer), the ratings of course, and also that I could probably easily switch around in the 4 Star line up without many digestive problems- at least I've read that most people can. I think that will help provide some variety. I also read a lot of good reviews about shiny coats and healthy digestive systems. In the end it was hard to choose between a lot of good choices. Any final opinions on this? Puppy gets here in 7 days and I need to get my k9cuisine order out in the next day! Does anyone know how long the free shipping generally takes? I hope I'm not too late! Thanks in advance!
Maralynn
That should be fine. You'll probably end up switching foods around anyway after a while. You'll read something new, or see a food that looks really good or decide to give raw a try. Not all foods work that same for all dogs, so you really just need to pick a quality one and see how your dog does on it - and even if he does great you'll probably change it sometime just because My older dog has probably had a dozen different varieties of kibble and now she eats raw half the time. hey_jude
Maralynn, Haha you're right! I'm probably just overly obsessing as it is my first time in 15 years with a puppy... I want to get everything right! Thank you!!
WildFlower
I mix Fromm's with another food for Daisy. I am really happy with it. Plus for me, it's a local company which I am happy to support.
Ooky
Hi Erin, welcome and congrats on your new pup (coming home soon, right?) I've never used Fromm's but I will probably end up trying some flavor of it someday, Maralynn is right about switching foods. But one thing I'd like to point out that no matter how good a food is, it still might now agree with your dog's individual digestive system, and it's good to be observant and open to switching if it's not going too well. For example, I wouldn't feed Odin a duck-based food, not because I don't like duck or think it's not a quality protein, but it tends to give him gas, which I don't want to put up with. Another example is that after reading some of Wendy's (Lenajo) comments about "cool" foods and "hot" foods, I wanted to put Odin on a fish-based food. Well, he can handle raw fish just fine, or a kibble that has a small amount of fish in addition to some other protein, but a fish-based kibble gives him runny stool (I've tried fish formulations for several brands, and have actually has to give uneaten bags away). Finally, there are just some brands he does worse with, for some reason Wellness and Taste of the Wild in any flavor do not agree with him. (We've redubbed TOW, "Fart of the Wild"). Right now we use Orijen normal adult food supplemented with raw, and I can't say enough great things about it. But even still, I'll probably switch sometime. hey_jude
Thank you guys so much! I will start him with Fromm's and then will see how he is doing once he's been on it for 3 weeks or so. I found all of the information helpful- thank you very much! I will be watching him closely to ensure its the right food for him. If not, at least I know there are many other great options out there.
