Has anybody on the board, tried this product? I see that they are now a sponsor for the finals, and I guess there are some stockdog people that are using it with some success...Two dogs that I trial, and one especially, are prone to over heating, and with the heat we've had this year (over 100 degrees for the last 6 weeks) and combined with the high humidity I wouldn't mind trying something that might help them out in that regard. The site has lots of pretty pictures of molecules and such ;-) but I couldn't seem to find any ingredients. With all the benefits touted,( quite a few) you'd think human athletes would want to give it a shot as well....

Here's the site, I'd be curious to hear from any of you with a background in Chemistry, and what you think about their claims. Snake oil or legit supplement?

I've never heard of it, although I know both of the guys on the site giving testimonials. Shoresdog is the chemist--maybe she'll chime in here?

Smart water for dogs. Another dumb idea to separate you from your coins. The same products are available for people and don't work any better than anything I do for myself before going out for the day.

I do not agree with the theory that doctored water, adding Oxy, electrolytes or other supplements is any better than anything else. even the old standby gatorade is better than what they're marketing today.

The trick to working long and hard is to be well hydrated and have a good electrolyte balance before you start and to maintain that hydration and balance throughout the day. Realize that once you (or your dog) fall behind the water curve the only way to stop it is to cease activity and re-hydrate with water a proper electrolytes. Bear in mind it can take several days to rehydrate after being severely dehydrated and heat stressed.

I posted that in the other discussion on water extenders.

Thanks for the link Susan. read all the posts, very intersesting. My main concern is that they don't list the ingredients. Another thing I'm curious about, am I right that their claim is that this stuff gets more Oxygen in the blood? Is that what they are trying to achieve in blood doping? Only this outfit obviously does it without the need of a blood transfusion...

Somebody on the other thread asked why working dogs even needed supplements. My thoughts on that are that your average working farm dog, that's fit and healthy probably shouldn't need anything more than quality food and fresh water, to do a days work. It's my opinion though, that trialing dogs fall into a different category. The trial dog IMHO get's a double whammy, they are expected to work in oft times, extreme conditions ( especially some of your top Open and Nursery dogs) Huge fields, sometimes in high heat and humidity, that would be tough enough, but then you throw in the stress factor, the stress of trialing, stress of being on the road... I think that would play a huge role in depleting the dogs of minerals etc...I know it does in humans (from personal experience) so why wouldn't it be the same for dogs? For instance, are magnesium, pottassium and calcium important minerals for canines just as in humans? I'm assuming yes? Would that be a reasonable supplement for our dogs? I'd really like to hear Liz P's thoughts on this or anyone else for that matter ;-)
