esox
Our Lab, Ozzy, is itching so much we are calling him Thumper. Right now he is getting Benadryl to see if that helps. Are there any creams you can put on dogs? His belly is getting quite red. Secondly, Jackie recently changed the Lab's food to Purina Little Bites. Could the change in food be contributing? It's been about a month. He was fine on the Innova. I want to put him back on the Innova. Alex still eats that so we have some right here. Any idea how long it would take for the itching to stop if the food is the problem. Thanks, Esox & Alex
aljones
I've been learning a lot about allergies since adopting Ody last fall, and it sounds very probable that Ozzy is reacting to something in his new food. I would definitely switch him back to the Innova right away and see if he quits itching. I'm not exactly sure how quickly you could expect the itching to quit (just this week, I've started the "challenge" part of figuring out what exactly Ody reacts to), but my vet said we should expect to see any returning allergy symptoms (like itching) subside in a couple of days. Folks with more experience might know if it takes longer for them to stop itching if they've been on the allergic-reaction-producing food longer. osioda
If it is real bad, your vet should have gave you a prescriptioin of prednazone, to give him until the itch is under control
Jedismom
This site had some home remedies to use to help with itching. http://www.dailypuppy.com/articles/home-re...y-skin_751.html It could very well be the food. I hope it clears up when you switch back. My Cadi used to itch alot until I started to add Salmon Oil to her food everyday. It's wonderful stuff. I also have found that I cannot bathe her with a flea shampoo. She itches like crazy. Good luck and let us know what happens!
