in2adventure
All my dogs have been rescues so papers and knowing their begginings has never been an option. Grady just got his ABCA papers in the mail today and I now have my first registered dog. He's a rescue, of course, but a woman that adopted one of his brothers pushed the original owner to get the papers on them because she wants to compete in herding trials. I have to send the papers back in though because he spelled Grady's name and my address wrong. No biggie. Not sure being registered will mean anything, but it's kinda cool to know where he came from. He's fixed and I probably won't do sheep trials (maybe). The one really exciting thing is the birthdate. I thought he was born on March 15th, but it's actually March 3rd on the paperwork. This means he can be entered in the Belgrade, MT agility trial in Sept He gets to have his frist trial at the same place Lucia had hers. Rebecca, Irena Farm
Congrats! My first rescue Border Collie had papers. It was really fun to see his relations in action and be able to "talk dogs" with people at trials and clinics. It was the beginning of a passion. Just to clarify, papers aren't needed to do normal stockdog trials. Only the AKC demands registration for participation.

I'm really happy he's not rergistered that way! At the rate I'm going he'll never see sheep again anyway You'd think living in WY I'd find a TON of sheep ranchers, but just the opposite. It's sad because the trainer (in NY)over the winter said he's very keen with lots of potential. I need a farm

in2adventure
Where are you in WY? The far northwest corner (Yup, in Yellowstone) and most of the ranchers have cattle here. I did just hear of a ranch that has sheep, but not the best for newbie dogs or handlers.
