juliepoudrier
Most of us don't worry about calories per day. Most of the folks I know (myself included) feed a high-quality adult kibble to their pups, and adjust amounts based on the way the pup looks. The reason you probably can't find specific numbers/amounts anywhere is because all dogs are individual and what foods and amounts work for one dog might not work for another. So you really have to pay attention to how your own dog does on a particular amount of a particular food and adjust up or down as needed. It's important to remember that pups will do better if they are kept on the lean side (roly poly is NOT good, despite all the cute advertising photos you see). Encouraging rapid growth can lead to joint problems, so better to not throw food at a pup so that it's fat and growing fast. They're not feeder pigs. So I'd start with three small meals a day, a cup of kibble or less, and then pay attention to how well the pup eats and how it looks and change the feed amounts accordingly. J. Tommy Coyote
hey guys...so i've searched the internet and haven't come up with an answer that i can figure out...mebbe i'm dumb...and i've also searched the archives for an answer... i know bc pups have different nutritional requirements than other dogs...so for a growing bc pup, what would the calories per day be?...i want to be prepared before the pup gets here... I feed my puppy Evo Reduce Fat which is 440 cal. per cup. Tommy gets two cups a day and she has done fine so far. She gets quite a bit of exercise but not as much as a dog out on a farm - if a puppy was really active they would probably need more.
