Lump on face

DH noticed that Jazz had a small lump developing on his face below the eye. I stopped by my vet's for another matter today and mentioned the lump to him. Right away, he said it's a nasal tooth abcess and that it is quite common. Since Jazz was going in for his annual check up this week anyway, I can get it dealt with right away. He sent me home with antibiotics. When I looked at Jazz's face tonight, it was noticeably larger.

DH isn't as involved with the dogs as I am, but he certainly caught this before I did. Hopefully it's nothing more serious than needed a tooth extracted.

Good board mojo requested for Mr. Jazz on Friday please.

Ouch! No fun at all.

Our old Aussie, MacLeod, had a swelling under his eye which we mistakenly thought was a wasp sting, and it went away in just a couple of days. About a month later, there it was again but much, much larger and more extensive, covering most of the side of his head below the eye. We knew then it was serious.

Sure enough, a visit to the vet confirmed that he had a cracked tooth (in a stockdog, it isn't the age but the mileage sometimes) that had abscessed and, under surgery, they found that the corresponding tooth on the other side of his head was also cracked and needed removal. He was a much more comfortable dog afterwards.

Sue, I thought it was a bee sting too! But DH insisted that it wasn't and he was right (good thing I listened to him) I'm hoping it's just one tooth and all will be fine. Jazz is 10 now....and this will be the first real health issue he has had.

Jazz came through the surgery nicely. He had 5 teeth removed! Three were infected  I am kicking myself for not noticing sooner but he didn't seem to show any pain and his breath didn't smell bad. His major symptom was he just seemed not quite as peppy as usual. I just attributed that to his being 10 and slowing down slightly. Obviously, the poor fellow was fighting the infection. :D Lesson learned - I'll pay far more attention to small changes in behaviour! I am sure he'll be feeling much better in a day or two!
