in2adventure
For the most part, I forget he's not neutered. He's either a gentleman or really just doesn't know what they're for anyway This is my first boy dog. After watching my co-worker's humping machine (he's neutered) and my neighbor's crotch obsessed, over bearing yellow lab (unfixed), I wasn't sure if a boy would be a good idea. He's been a great dog and I would definately have another boy! I'm also having his hips and growth plates x-rayed while under. Figured it was safer to do it all at once than it was to knock him out twice. Wish us luck that all turns out well and his hips looks great. It would suck to put in all the training time and find out he should never jump again

in2adventure
Thanks guys! I'll be sending good vibes for Chase, too. Poor guy. If you were closer we could have a recovery party
in2adventure
All went well Even though he's sore, he's not at all slow It's going to a long few days....LOL! The collar of shame is a definate no go in his book, so I have to keep a close eye on him because he wants to fuss with the stiches. The xrays show a slight seperation in his hips, but nothing to worry about the vet said. No sign of arthritis either. He's all clear for agility and whatever else I can come up with

MicheleS.
Chase and I are very happy everything turned out well for Grady Chase is NOT a happy camper Of course the surgery didn't slow him down and he learned how to bend the weird soft collar of shame so he was able to lick and start working on the stitches. sigh..... Back to the vet for a check and Chase was sent home with a stiff e-collar and sedatives. Nothing is ever easy with Chase Glad to hear Grady did well. in2adventure
Chase and I are very happy everything turned out well for Grady Chase is NOT a happy camper :D Of course the surgery didn't slow him down and he learned how to bend the weird soft collar of shame so he was able to lick and start working on the stitches. sigh..... Back to the vet for a check and Chase was sent home with a stiff e-collar and sedatives. Nothing is ever easy with Chase Glad to hear Grady did well. Michele & Chase Well, I thought Grady had done really well On Wed he ended up back at the vet for uveitis in the right eye and again last night because he couldn't put his back left leg down. The poor vet was suposed to close at noon yesterday and never left the office until Grady and i left. She was doing an emergency C-section on a boxer when we arrived, too. When I originally called, I made an appointment for 5:30 and she said she would just come back to the office then to look at Grady. The parking lot was full when we got there and she said she had never left the office to begin with Not sure where the uveitis came from (it's healing very slowly, but well), but the leg thing is from the surgury. I didn't have to put the collar of shame on him, he only licked a little, but because he won't sit still for more than 30 seconds, he got his groin and hips inflamed. Poor little guy....where his nuts were supposed to be looked like he grew another set He got all swollen and it felt and looked like there was a golfball in there He could barely put his back leg down yesterday and he looked like he just got done riding a horse when did. The vet put him on an oral steroid and Doxy for a week. As i write this, he's still trying to throw a ball in my lap. He walks almost normal today. Swelling is gone and he doesn't seem as sore. Bed rest for another few days though, or at least I'll do my best to keep him there. I guess he's right up there with Chase when it comes to things not being easy
MicheleS.
Hey, I've been following Grady's recovery and reading about the uveitis and all that I'll tell you that I've had 3 dogs and then came CHASE!! 2 shepherds went through neutering with absolutely no problems, no collar of shame, no licking, no obsessing. Gypsy went through her spaying just fine and she's so smart she knew she needed to chill for a few days. Chase..... heaven help me! No, he came home the day of his surgery and thought it was business as usual. I kicked myself for declining sedatives that day. He came home with one of those flexible collars and quickly discovered how to bend it and pull it back to get to his incision and you know, the remnants of his testicles. Okay, we put him in the crate for immobility but sigh, he started doing somersaults and back flips in the crate We were back at the vet on Saturday morning. Yes, he had a nice hematoma started, yes, started working to take his stitches out... They sent us home with a stiff collar of shame, antibiotics and a nice vile of sedatives and another $60 poorer. This last week has been so tiring because yes, even sedated, Chase wanted to play. For 4 solid days I had to sit with him 24-7. My husband and I took turns sleeping downstairs with him. Like I said before, nothing is ever easy with Chase. Nothing! Yesterday was the first day things around my house were normal. ha ha I'm so sorry Grady (and you) had that experience but I'm really happy for you guys that things are looking more normal now. I'm feeling for you.... Keep us posted. Take care of your special boy. Michele & Chase
in2adventure
Sorry to laugh, but I guess that's all you can do, right? I'm missing an agility trial this weekend because of the extra cash spent at the vet No biggie, there's another next weekend, too. The vet is also 2 hours, one way, and emergencies, even very minor, can turn serious fast. I love where i live, but the distance to the rest of the world can be tough sometimes. I'm glad to here things are back to normal for Chase. I love this breed, even with energy level. It does make life challenging. Grady is doing lots better. No more swelling or limping, his eye is almost blue again and the incision is almost healed. Life is good here too He has only one more follow up for the eye in a week, but should be good to go. Even had him working on the dog walk last night He's pretty happy to back to agility, even if it's just little things for a coupe more days. Give Chase a cookie for me. Better yet, send him out this way to help wear Grady out
MicheleS.
So happy things are back to normal with you guys too And please, feel free to laugh Chase would have it no other way. He lives for the laughs and he certainly keeps us in stitches (no pun intended). I'm sure Chase would love to come visit Grady and help tire him out. Do you know what happens when a BC is sedated for 4 days!?!?! The energy is stored for future use.... Gotta luv those BC's. Chase is my first BC and he certainly won't be my last.
