Dixie_Girl
I just heard that Steve Irwin has been killed in a diving expedition. Apparently a stingray nailed him in the chest, they said, killing him instantly. He was only 44.
smileyzookie
I hope you heard very wrong. That would suck so bad. Especially for his wife and 2 kids. ETA:news His poor wife and kids. I really loved his show and his movie. He loved animals
RaisingRiver
It's true, I just googled it... very sad. His wife was trekking in Tasmania at the time. As my hubbie said, at least he was doing what he loved.
Hector
That's sad. I really liked him on the TV shows. He seemed to know what he was doing, but apparently he just pushed the envelope a bit too far this time. There are no guarantees in life. AP article about Steve's Death Edited: From the above article: "Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called 'Ocean's Deadliest' when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said." As tragic as this incident was, think about the name of the documentary -- "Ocean's Deadliest". Apparently they didn't take that name seriously enough. Edit #2 -- Live and learn, I stand corrected. On FOX NEWS they reported that there are only 17 recorded cases of a stingray fatally stinging a human. They said that stingrays are docile, timid creatures that don't attack. Their stinging is a defensive reaction to a perceived threat. A knowledgeable person will avoid disturbing a stingray since their sting is very painful. But the incidence of fatal stings is extremely rare. Unfortunately Steve was somewhat careless and very unlucky.
Kat's Dogs
That is really sad. I just can't believe that he died. After doing all that stuff with snakes, alligators, and so on..... It just seems to strange, so alarming, that he actually died. It didn't seem possible!
SincereArtisan
Thats awful. I can hardly believe it....I just read the story...and even the doctor who treated him claimed he'd never even HEARD of a death caused by a stingray before. Thats just so sad. I loved watching his shows....his programs on wildlife all over the world have done SO much for people everywhere. I've been watching his show since they first began.... I can't imagine what his wife and kids must be going through. What a hard blow this must be to deal with...he was a great man.

kelpiegirl
I was shocked when I saw this on the news. I am so sad for Terri and the kids and his family at Australia Zoo. He was such a great influence on conservation, and he was such an animal lover- it kills me to see such a great person leave so young. He died doing what he loved, but I am still very upset. Well miss you Steve. Julie

Jesus is waitng for you buddie ,and he has a hand full of snakes and a 19ft saltwater croc I bet! Take good care of him Jesus. My love and sypathy goes out to Teri,Bindi, Little Bob, his Dad, his best Bud Wes,and The Austrailian Zoo Crew. He died doing what he loved... lance
Also very sorry to hear the News about Steve Irwin's death. I had left the TV on last night on fox news. First thing I heard when I woke up at 6:30am this morning was the anouncement that Steve Irwin had been killed. It wasn't until they said also known as "Crockadile hunter" did my foggy mind know it was him. What a shock! I too always loved seeing him on tv. Anda
It is indeed very sad. Somehow, I've always knew this is how he is going to end his life. But I expected it to be a crocodile or a snake.... I loved his shows, his enthusiasm and everything he did....
Jedi
I felt really sad when I heard this on the news today - he was such a great character and will be greatly missed. RIP Steve.
Kat's Dogs
Anda, same here. I always thought that "he is going to die doing that!" but I figured it would be by some 1,000 pound crock or something. And, on top of that, the fact that it is an unusual thing to die by stingray....
Lunar
I heard this last night... we were all shocked to find it confirmed on CNN. Even though I didn't like watching his shows, it's just so very sad, especially when I think of his family.

WyoBC
He was a great person. I didn't think he would go like that, but like everyone said he was doing what he loved. I feel so bad for his wife and two kids. They're all so nice. I was always a big fan, and friend. Steve, you'll be missed, more than you will ever know. Thanks for all the great times, and the laughs. You'll never be forgotten. God Bless you buddy
Beth G
I was shocked and deeply saddened. I've been watching his show since it was brand new!! I always wondered if something like this might happen, only I thought it would be a Croc that did it. He was always pushing the boundaries...but I never imagined this would really happened. He will be sorely missed by both the people and the animals.
