Laurie S.
I tried to search for some info on this, but couldn't find anything really specific. I drive an F-250 Supercab and there won't be room in the passenger compartment for a dog crate (rear seats are shallow in depth and I wouldn't want it on the front passenger seat). My truck has a shell with a bed rug and padded roof, but this is Arizona and the a/c just won't get back in there to keep a dog cool enough. So, since I want to travel with my new dog, I need an alternative, which I'm guessing is a pet harness attached to a seat belt. Is there any particular brand that works best? I saw two different kinds, one of which allows a dog to move from side to side. Which would be the best for bc, stationary or the moving one? NCStarkey
Hi Laurie, I, too, have an F-250 Supercab truck (2006), and here's how my dogs travel safely in the back seat. Each dog wears a body harness, the standard type harness that many people use for walking their dogs. I attach an 18" nylon traffic lead to the child safety seat "loop" at the top of the seat back, and then clip the lead to the harness ring. There are three of these loops across the top of the seat back, and they are very securely attached to the truck. Also, by securing the dog's harness lead at the top of the seat back, the dog can either sit or lie down on the seat, and they quickly learn how to duck under the lead to turn around before lying down. I hope that this information helps. Regards, nancy
Laurie S.
That's a great idea, thanks! I'll have to dig those loops out from behind the seat where I tucked them. Glad I didn't them cut off!
desertranger
Cool stuff for cooling campers. http://www.kooleraire.com/News.htm http://www.swampy.net/ http://do-it-yourself.tribe.net/thread/777...b1-629eba65e30b You can also find 12v A/C units and if you're engine is big enough you can drive a 2nd A/C unit setup to cool the back of your truck. Sue R
I have seat belt harnesses for my three adults. They get used to them quickly and, as pointed out, adjust fast to moving without getting tangled. My car is just too small for multiple crates. It gives me a great deal of peace of mind to have them secured in case of accidents, and so that none can jump out unexpectedly when a door is opened. Also, I never have to worry about a barking or otherwise excited dog jumping on folks in the car, especially the driver! I hit a deer standing broadside one night, going 70 mph in heavy interstate traffic. My van was totalled. My daughter and myself, in the front seats, were safe - and so were the two dogs in their harnesses in the back seat. I was very grateful to have had them secured that night. PSmitty
Will the crate fit if you turn it sideways on the back seat? Anyway, I have these seat belts for mine, though I prefer them to be crated. I haven't had any problems with the seat belts, no tangling or that kind of thing. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...&pcatid=
Jumpin Boots
We have a '99 F250, although now I can't remember if is is a supercab or next size up, the back set is very narrow. Anyway, our back seat folds down to make a completely flat area behind the seats. A large crate fits in there perfectly if you put it in sideways.
