BCDreamer
But not a terrible, horrible bad, just a "Oh no, this will be a pain" bad. I just took Psyche and Bella out and let Psyche 'get to know' the pond. Bella, my GSD, LOVES the pond, and any water, for that matter. Turns out Psyche likes it pretty well too! She was cautious at first, but she got right into it by the end. She's now covered in water and mud, and loving every second of it! Anyone else have a water loving Border collie? bskeeter
My girl, Belle, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the pond. She thinks she's part fish.
Jumpin Boots
Boots loves the water, mud, muddy water, ocean, wet sand, rivers, his favorite is to try to sink sticks or pick up sticks that have sunk by dunking his head under water. Renoir on the other hand is nervous around water, as long as he can see the bottom and it doesn't come up over his elbows he is fine, otherwise he won't go near it; but he had a bad experience when he was a pup. He went down this pretty steep slope to a rivers edge and had his front feet in, when gravity worked against him and he ended up getting plunged head first by the weight of his own butt, then as he was scrambling backwards he dunked himself a few more times before we could get to him to help. We didn't fuss over the issue and tried to get him to go right back in, but he was having nothing to do with it, poor guy Muddy Boots
esox
Alex loves the water. More than her 2 Labrador brothers. Unless that water involves the bathtub or shampoo. Esox & Alex
BustopherJones
Annie loves the water, as long a stream or river is involved. She also loves to go fishing with me in the rowboat. But just TRY to get her near a bathtub or wading pool, and she suddenly hates the water...
Ms.DaisyDuke
Daisy will go into a river or lake, but not any higher than her tummy. She'll swim, but it isn't her favorite. Her ultimate fav is a nice big sloppy mud puddle. Can't keep that dog out of dirty water. She rolls in it too, the thicker the mud, the better. THAT is irritating! Seriously. If there was a river with a nice dirty puddle next to it, guess which one she's going to pick to play in?!

Ninso
I have a hard time keeping Lok out of the water if he sees a pond before I do! He's not sure about swimming though. He prefers to keep his feet on the ground. Funny story, my girl Jun is not much of a water dog. This spring as the snow was melting if I threw a toy into a puddle she was very hesitant to go in and get it and got out as fast as she possible could. Over the winter we would go to a friend's house on a lake, and of course the lake was frozen so we would throw toys out onto the (snow-covered) ice to fetch. Jun would take a flying leap off the bank onto the ice. Fast forward to this spring after the lakes had thawed and the weather started to warm. We went to this friend's house for some fetch again and as I was getting out the toys I see a blur of white run past me and turn just in time to see Jun take a giant leap off the bank of the lake and land in water over her head!! For a second I thought she must have changed her mind about the water, until I she came up sputtering with the most hurt and confused look on her face I have ever seen!! I almost died laughing and she just stood still in water up to her shoulders for a couple minutes until she got her bearings back and sulked back to shore. It had to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen!
1sheepdoggal
All my dogs love water, swimming, stock tank, water hose, pretty much water in any form, except when it comes to a bath.
bcnewe2
must be a bc thing. Mine all think baths kill them but they love any other water they can find. Even little puddles. The muddier the better. Today we walked down to the snowmelt creek with the new LGD pups. This was our second hike to the creek. The first time they wouldn't get near it which I was glad for, I somehow saw myself having to go in the cold snowmelt creek to rescue the 2 little buggers. But this time they had their front feet in. The other dogs were daring them to come on in. Again, Im glad they're going slow. They've grown so much in 3 days in a few more, I wouldn't feel the need for a puppy rescue. It's a small but fast running creek with lots of log jams. So They could get out quickly if they tried. Dew loves the hose if it's her idea, hates it if I try to hose her off. we end up with me holding her between my legs while I squirt her off if she's muddy, she whines the whole time. Plus she makes sure to drench me at the same time. gotta love these water dogs!
Jumpin Boots
Sorry off topic bcnewe2-Did you post something about input for your new pups names? What did you end up calling them?
desertranger
A better question would be does anyone have a BC that doesn't like water. Everyone I've ever had including Jin love the water, ponds, lakes, ocean, pool, hose even a puddle if he can make mud.
Anda
Yes, I am afraid you created a moster Now you know how you'll be spending all weekends this summer I'm waiting for some pics of The Water Monster aka Ouzo to show up... especially the dolphin ones... Haha - you mean, these? We made some fresh pics last Sunday, I just haven't had time to process them yet
aussiered
Bonnie's not too keen on water. I'm jealous of everyone wo has a dog that loves water... Bon will swim if I'm swimming with her, but mainly because she doesn't like to get too far away from me... And she will go into the water if I throw a ball of a stick in there for her, but only if her feet can stil touch the ground, we lost a tennis ball last week because I threw it in too far and she wouldn't go in that fa to get it.... This is about as far as she will get in
flyer
Colt loves to swim. I think his favorite part of our walks at the river is his swimming for sticks. He just bolts for the sand area. Today I accidently threw a ball into a pond at the park and I'm thinking damn there goes that ball, when he ran, jumped off the rocks into the pond, swam out and retrieved the ball. When he climbed out he dropped the ball at my feet and faced the pond. Anda cool pic's!! Flyer
pansmom
Pan absolutely adores all water. She has actually tried to come into the shower with me before. I don't even think she minds the WATER part of a bath. But so far I have not let her do anything but run through puddles (with a fervor! lots of splashing!) and lay down in really deep puddles (she does it slowly, then looks up at me and grins--I don't mind 'cause she LOVES to be dried off too--by me anyway--we do the towel-monster game). But there is a river that runs behind my in-laws' house and once when we were walking back there she REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to go in. But there are GATORS in that river so I didn't let her! Another (gator-free) body of water, one day! Pan at the dog park on Christmas day, 2008 P.S. Psyche - what a great name for a BC - love it! BCDreamer
Well, Psyche's pretty good for bath (I had to bath her last night cause she was covered in mud and is making an appearence in one of my classes today), she doesn't LOVE the water in the tub, but she just sits or stands there without trying to get out. Bella hates the hose, and the bad tub, but LOVES puddles, ponds, lakes, etc.. But she HATES to actually swim. I think swimming's something Psyche might start on her own, with enough trips to the pond. Ours isn't very deep, 3 feet at it's deepest point, so I don't worry about anything - if they got out there and got hurt, or something, I could go out and get them no problem. I'm okay with that monster I've created. I LOVE water dogs. Last summer was a JOY spending it with 4 Goldens and then Bella who likes water about 1/3 as much as they do. It had to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen! LOL! That IS hilarious! My dog has only willingly gone in water over his shoulders once. He was playing with this crazy Wheaton terrier, who was running him ragged on a fairly warm day. I think he had just had enough. He suddenly ran straight out into the water until he was up to his chin. The other dog simply couldn't maneuver in the water fast enough to play crazy. Buddy stayed in his sanctuary until he was either cooled off or recharged. He has never walked into water since - even when I had chicken and was trying to tempt him in. eclare
I can't keep my Daisy out of the water. We can't even walk near a body of water without her going nuts. She'll jump up and plop down in the decorative fountains we have in the city parks. One time my boyfriend and I were walking her in a park near his house. He had just taken her on a run and I assumed she was pretty tired, so I let her off leash to chase squirrels in a big empty field. On one side of the field was a river, but it was hidden by trees, so I figured she would be distracted enough by squirrels that she wouldn't notice. And besides, she's a good swimmer - even if she did find the river she would splash around for awhile then come right out. What I had not counted on were the ducks. Although, if it were just ducks, it probably wouldn't have been a problem - they fly away, she gets bored and comes back. But oh - it was spring, and there were BABY ducks. Baby ducks who could not fly away and could only swim fast enough so that Daisy would never actually be able to catch them but slow enough that she honestly believed that she could. She got about a hundred yards downstream before my (cursing and swearing) BF jumped in and caught her. By the time I caught up to them she was squirming happliy in his arms with a big goofy grin on her face as if to say "Look ma! Did you see me? I was chasing ducks." Lesson learned. No more running off leash when there are critters to chase.
Elizabeth77
I wish Meg would swim and have still hopes she may. It is amazing that she will go in until she knows one more step will have her out of her depth. How do they know that one step will achieve this? I hope if we get a Summer and I can go swimming she will come in. My last dog was an incredible swimmer .
bc4ever
Scooter loves the wading pool, but refuses to sit down in it! He'll splash wildly with his front paws to get water on his tummy, and puts his face under water to retrieve a sinking frisbee, but no amount of coaxing will get him to actually get totally wet. We've even tried "sit". Uh uh! I am looking for someone with a pond this summer so Scooter might be able to get some swimming in. Therapy for his hip dysplasia. If he could wade in, he might react differently.
