ultimatek9 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Hello. I just rescued my first Border Collie friday night. He is about 18-24 months old. He came from a life of: living in an apartment, full-time working single mother, 4 year old kid, no yard, no walks, no training, no play time, no real outside his crate time, oh and a crappy diet. The lady told me he was unilaterally deaf, a nipper, neutered, microchipped, crate trained, house broken, toy possessive, etc. He appears to have great hearing, hasn't nipped at anything or anyone, is unaltered, not chipped, not house broken, terrified of his crate, and has no interest in toys. His new name is Ruckus and he is such a love. He has already learned his new name, sit, down, paw, other paw, spin, come, and to recall when I whistle. I am working on teaching him to play with toys and he is learning how to properly socialize with other dogs. My existing dogs have been very tolerant of his lack of manners. He goes in next week for his neutering, chipping, and overall vet check. OH. and the poor boy has been crated for so long, that he has very little muscle tone and has limited range of movement with his back legs. He makes a little bit of progress each day, and I am betting in no time you will not know anything was ever wrong. My non BC family includes: 5 American Pit Bull Terriers, 1 Akita, 1 Dogo Argentino, 1 Patterdale Terrier, 1 Jack Russell Terrier, and a Miniature Pinscher. I own a health food store for dogs and cats, and volunteer at the local dog training club. I spend most of my spare time playing, training, and competing with my dogs. I train and compete my dogs in conformation, obedience, rally, agility, flyball, and weightpull. I have been around BC, as well as other herding breeds for years. But I have never had one of my own. I hope to hang around the board and learn more about the breed. My new boy deserves a fun, happy life full of activities and love, and that is what I plan on giving him. Quote

ultimatek9 Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 CARLA!!!! Aka, Alex's second Mom. Welcome to where I spend all my time when I'm supposed to be working. And y'all, I've met Ruckus, he's adorable! I knew you were on here. I almost put in my post "if Paula is reading this, GET BACK TO WORK!". Ha Ha. Ruckus is doing soooooo gooooood. He is laying at my feet while I "work". I will have to show you his platz (down). He is so cute. When I tell him to platz, he circles to the right and then throws himself down on his side and shows me his belly. Probably won't pass in the obedience ring, but it is so darn cute. Quote
PSmitty Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 He's a doll. I already posted a picture of him in the Rescue section under the "I want this dog" thread (yes, I know, he's yours), but here he is again. Quote
ultimatek9 Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 Well if some reason he doesn't work out with our family. I will send him to you. and I will take Alex for you. Quote

urge to herd Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Ooooo, I want to come live at your house! That second from the bottom pic of Mercy in the air and Ruckus behind her is a hoot, it looks like Ruckus just grabbed her and tossed her up, "Look, Ma, I'm flyin!" I think Ruckus is going to have a great time. Ruth Quote
Elizabeth77 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 What a wonderful family, lucky Ruckus. Quote
desertranger Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Paw, other paw? Not wax on, wax off? Quote
PSmitty Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 There's my boy, Jaeger! Those are great shots. I love the ones of Ruckus and flying Mercy. And yeah, you can steal Alex. Over my cold, dead body. Quote
Cody & Duchess Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Looks like Ruskus has found a new best friend in Mercy. Beautiful dogs. Quote

eclare Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I don't know if I'd let Ruckus and Mercy spend too much time together! They already look like they're plotting to take over the world! Quote
ShoresDog Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Welcome aboard! This picture is a real classic. Ruckus landed well. His new friends are sure helping him learn to be a dog! Quote
Carson Crazies Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Hey! Dude! I've seen Jaeger before. Glad to hear Ruckus has landed so well - welcome to the fold. Quote
ultimatek9 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 Amira is stunning! What a gorgeous pittie. Thanks. She is such a good girl. One of my friends (her breeder) took her back from the @hole that bought her. She checks up on all of her pups, after they are placed. This guy was keeping her crate almost 24/7, and she had "bed sores" on both sides, collapsed pasterns, very little musle tone, and her coat was urine/feces stained. She has come along way in 4 months. Quote
sixx Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Yippee! I'm glad Ruckus was adopted! I saw the cute cute picture of him in the "I want this dog" thread, what a handsome boy! Quote
