aussiered
That coat color (what Australians and show dog people call "red," and the rest of us call "yellow" or sometimes "Australian red") is almost always found exclusively in dogs with a show dog background, so my guess is that Cherry (who is ridiculously adorable, by the way) will have a very full, rough coat. In Australasia, smooth coats are not accepted in the show ring. In Australia Red & White's are actually quite common in working lines, not just show lines. I know quite a few working dog people that have red dogs or dogs with red in their lines and will often have red puppies, many of these smooth coated. And there are always red pups advertised in farm and agricultural papers. Just so you know, there's a fair chance this pup isn't from a show dog background. And Cherry - your pup is known as a Red & White Border Collie (because you're in Australia), regardless of what the petshop told you her colour was. My dog is often called lemon, yellow, caramel, wheaten or even apricot by people on the street when I'm walking her, I'm past caring and over correcting people about it
herdcentral
I would also be carefull of that pink nose in the Queensland sun. Maybe use some zinc. My BC has a black nose but is very pink on the top of her muzzle adjoining her nose so I always put a dab of zinc on if we are going to be out in the sun for any length of time. She looks smooth coated, does she have a white patch between here ears on her forehead? She reminds me of Rhonda, she was 1/8 BC 7/8 ACD and was that color before her adult coat came in, these were of Rhonda last summer: Deb she has a white patch between her ears, i asked the pet shop when last time i went for vaccination, they said she is pure border collie she is 4 month old now, i will try take some her newest photo and upload to here

cherry chiang
Can't let her do that. She has to listen with ot without food. Just be patient and remember part of raising a border collie is frustration. ya...i also realise have a BC needs a lot of supervising and is always frustrating. one of her habit is sneak through the fence to the neighbours back yard. it always happen in a very unappropriate time, which is 6 in the morning. when the door bell rings in the early morning, i know trouble comes.....i feel so sorry to my poor neighbours.... herdcentral
Where can i get Zinc from? does it protect her from the UV? You can get it from a pharmacy or the supermarket and it will block out the UV. The vets also have sunblock for dogs, but I just use the zinc. Do you have a local dog club you can join? Our dog club always runs obedience classes for beginners right through the year, we also have puppy socialisation classes for puppies once they are fully vaccinated. Also if your pup is younger than 16 weeks the vets sometimes run puppy socialisation classes. These classes are very good for new dog owners as they usually take you through all the basics.
