I have booked next week off work and my wife, children, and myself are going to the Lake District for a few days.

And i've found something really interesting to do whilst i'm there, a 2 hr 1 on 1 sheep dog training session!

Really looking forward to it, i'm allowed to take Sam but he must be kept on a lead and is not allowed in the field with the sheep.

It is a working farm, here is the link.

Its costing me £70.00 which i think is very reasonable, but its just a shame i can't introduce Sam to the sheep

Nevermind, i'm sure i will be able to find somewhere else in the future that will allow Sam his first introduction.

Sam's a bit young yet for sheepdog lessons, but once he's ready there's certainly plenty of places just as close as the one you posted (which is pretty neat for a touristy sort of thing - the dogs are lovely).

Before Sam is ready, the National Finals for England will be held. That will be a good place to go and rub elbows with handlers and keep an ear out for those who are giving lessons. I know there are some, because some of them come overseas!

And then you should also go check out the Welsh National Finals, and the International if you can. You might meet some of Sam's relatives!

Hi Rebecca, thanks for the advise on the nationals, i know very little about this type of thing!

I had a read up a few weeks ago about sheep dog trialing in the UK, and it mentioned a nursery trial for dogs new to sheep who haven't won any trials before.

This would be great and i would like to introduce Sam to sheep when he gets a little older, however the worrying thing is how do i go about training him i.e., ongoing training?

If i was to trial him i would obviously like to be training him regularly, however without going out and purchasing some land and some sheep, i don't have any resources available for him.......which is a real shame, as i'm very enthusiastic about his training, and would training him morning, noon, and night if need be and if he enjoyed it.....

We are just about to leave the house now for the Lake District, will not be doing the sheep dog introduction until tommorrow at 2pm, its a 2hr 1:1 i've gone for.

We managed to find a hotel that is dog freindly, so Sam can come with us and share our hotel room!
