in2adventure
I've had Grady to the vets about his eye goo and the doc says he's fine. He gave him some eye cream to try, but it doesn't help. His eye are so gross in the AM when he wakes up that I need a warm, wet paper towel to get it all wiped up. His eyes are red, but after the clean up go back to normal. The goo color isn't bad. Maybe yellowy off white. Not green like an infection. The doc thinks it might be an allergy of some kind. Lucia is still having allergy problems to something in the house and still itches all the time, even with shots and weekly oatmeal baths. So it's possible he could have the same allergy, but showing it in a different way. There is just SO MUCH goo after he wakes up. Is this a concern? The vet doesn't think so. Anyone else with this problem? Suggestions? If I think about it, I'll try and get a picture of it.
Cynthia P
I usually associate that with an allergy; Mainly to food; I'd try switching food and see how they do; Corns, wheats and grain by products are sometimes the culprits cynthia
Jumpin Boots
I had this issue with both Renoir and Boots a few weeks ago and it turned out that at least one of them, but most likely both had gotten a grass seed or something stuck in their third eyelid. They are both on a steriod cream, and while it didn't seem to do anything for quite a few days, once it kicked in their eyes cleared right up. Poor Renoir woke up one morning completely freaking out b/c one eye was so goopy that he couldn't get it open, what a horrible feeling for the little guy
in2adventure
Poor Renoir Grady has had the same issue on several mornings. I just except the fact they need to be cleaned every day....and so does he I'm leaning toward the allergy thing too, Cynthia. Lucia has a skin allergy to something here and I wouldn't be surprised if Grady had it too. We have never stay in Central New York for more than a couple weeks and it's Grady's first visit here. We been here all winter. Our natural climate is dry and arid with little to no allergens around. I can't tell you how many people tell me they don't have allergies anymore after they move to WY. Including me! The food is a mixture of Taste of the Wild and Diamond Lamb and Rice. No corn, wheat, soy, gluetens, etc. When we go back west, I'll have to switch the Diamond since I can't buy it out there (at least not in my area). We head back west in 3 weeks and I'm hoping all the itchies and gooy eyes go away in a week or two. Lucia has a vet appointment right away for her yearly stuff and Grady is due to get neutered in May. I'll check with my reg vet then if the issues don't clear up. The vets here look at me like I'm crazy for bringing them in for such minor problems
mbc1963
FWIW, when I was a little girl, I was all allergies: constant eczema all over. My mother used to also have to take a warm wet compress to my eyes in the morning sometimes, because they'd swell and crust over when I was asleep. Appealing little thing, wasn't I? (Yick.) in2adventure
Appealing little thing, wasn't I? (Yick.) Mary I wonder if Grady thinks the same thing while I'm wiping his eyes with warm towels
2 Devils
It sounds like an allergy to environmental stuff not food. My acd gets this and the vets put her on eye ointment because she does end up with doggie pink eye. I found that this time of year is when it happens more often. She has environmental allergies to something in the air either grass or pollen or both. We can control it by having her on allergy meds. You may want to try benadryl or something other allergy you can give dogs. And yes I do consider it an issue since if it starts itching the dogs will scratch and they can scratch the eyeball. Guest maya's mom
We took Maya to the vet last summer for this issue. They did a tear test, and something else, but nothing was wrong. They said it was probably just an allergy, or reaction to all the stuff in the air, that goes flying around when she runs around outside. We are outside so much in the summer.....I am sure they were right, b/c over the winter, her eyes have been fine. Nothing in them, or coming out of them, except for the occasional dry, crunchy stuff. Over the summer, it was greenish/brown goo and was very thick. Always in the morning, and then sometimes throughout the day. I hope it gets better for you..... sweet_ceana
Ceana has gotten the "ojo mocos" (eye boogers!) since we moved to AZ. They don't seem to bother her at all, just me when I see them on her.
in2adventure
Thanks for all the replies! I'm thinking it is allergies and hoping they'll go away when we get back west. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. No rubbing or itching with it. It just looks really gross
