bottlerocket
Well the past 2 days my border collie has been opening up quite a bit and showing me his real personality. But the strangest thing is he's been sleeping in the bathtub. Is he in need of a confined space like a crate provides?
Ms.DaisyDuke
It's possible, or is it hot? Maybe he goes in there to cool off? Who knows! You could try a crate to see if he's just looking for a den type sleeping place...
bottlerocket
Not terribly hot. I am in Dallas, so its warmer, but it was only ~65 this morning
Laurae
Or, is there thunderstorm activity in your area this morning? Many dogs are drawn to the grounding that bathroom fixtures provide during electrical storms. But actually, I think your dog is telling you that he likes den-like places, so a crate is a good idea. Crate training a dog is also useful for a variety of reasons, including enabling your dog to be comfortable instead of nervous if he ever needs to be confined for any reason. This is especially useful if your dog ever needs to stay at the vet for any period of time without you (due to accident, illness, etc.). Sue R
One other thing to consider - a friend was staying at a B&B and her dog began climbing into the bathtub, behind the curtain. If he couldn't get in there (as someone was showering), he would squeeze in behind/beside the toilet. It turned out that there was a fire alarm (or some other electronic) that was emitting a brief beep occasionally. The sound was terrifying this poor dog. As soon as it was stopped, the dog relaxed and was fine again. You might want to check out and see if there is "something" making a sound that is distressing him, that you might not even take notice of - like a microwave, stove timer/oven's ready/etc, alarm enabled, and so on. Jack & Co.
Yep, it's actually the most coveted sleeping spot in the house. I have always remembered that picture and I still love it! SueR has a good point about the piercing noise. That's the effect the carbon monoxide detector beep has on Jack. It's one of the rare times he will get on my bed and he can't stop trembling. DTrain
It is always a good idea to have a crate for your dog anyway as a place he or she can go on their own. Having said that my dogs have crates and they will go to them when asked but they also have spots in the house where they like to sleep and go to when they seem stressed from a storm or something. It is interesting that they have all chosen spots that could be den like. Suck as under my desk or a chair and in the case of my oldest dog who has figured out how to open closet doors, closets.
