A long Intro: me and the gang

Recommended Posts

My name is Stella. I am in my early 20's. I started agility 2 1/2 years ago and I am a serious addict. :D I join this board a couple of months ago becasue I am facinated with border collie working sheep :D unforuantly I am not a big livestock fan so will most likely never get that into it(helped herd cows in MT on my brother friends farm and lets just say EWWWW). I am still interested in letting my dogs herd, so, I will have to deal with some livestock.

The first border collie I ever met was Callie, my moms neurotic merle border collie. Callie would have been fine if put into a border collie home but instead my mom had her. :D My mom was used to minature poodles... Long story short feeling bad for her we, my sister and I, after doing a ton of research on the breed, started training her in agility and basic obedience. After my brother got out of the military they decided to go to MT and my mom let them take Callie since there were farms out there. Having to deal with Callie made me swear :D never to get a border collie. It funny how life!

My sister told my dad and I that she would like a border collie for her b-day(which she denies to this day) or a brand new computer. We got her a border collie pup, Conner. Conner was everything that Callie wasn't. We realize that Callie was a fluke because of my mom. Conner was smart, easy to train, super cute, temerament to die for, LIVED to please, do I need to say more??? He could do a down stay for 10min at 4 months old! He got me started on border collies. :D He is the reason I got Cressa...

Cressa as a pup was a umm... "w"itch. She couldn't care less if humans existed. Her mindset was "You want me to do what? For you? HA!". She was also sick for the first 2-3months. First she got worms then KC from my brother pup. Also she was sentitive to movement and sound then to top it off she was soft. As stated before training her in agility was perhaps entertaining. She was scared of jumps because the bar might drop, teeters were a big NONO. (Thanks to Conner she can do the teeter) Depending on the day Cressa would listen. It was awesome watching Cressa intensity tho and scary to watch her prey drive. I learn how to stop on a dime FAST! She got her nickname Jaws as a pup cause if you ran from her you would her click click click then OUCH. ALL I know is thank doG for tug toys!

of course maybe this is why she dislike humans

Now Cressa is still a "w"itch, she is still intense but she is the great. She is a joy to compete with and has saved my butt countless times. I think Cressa get agility better then I do at some points! She also listens very well onleash or off. Out of all of my or my family dogs she is the one most like me. Indepenant, don't like most people(the evil looks she gives to some people... :D )- if she doesn't like you, you can't change her mind, stubborn, LOL do I need to go on? We just match now if that make sense. :D I wouldn't trade Cressa in for anything! I introduced her to sheep and out of all of our dogs (her and my sisters 2) she preform the best not sure if that counts... With Cressa while she will only work with a few people to those people she will give her all.

I knew I wanted another border collie sooner or later. When Cressa was around three and in training. When we were just refining the basic I started looking for another border. I looked into some working border collie (thru their website) and fell in LOVE with one breeding but me and the breeder had a disagreement with how old the pup should be when sold. He said 6 weeks and I prefer 7-8weeks. A compromise couldn't be reached so I kept looking. I contacted Cressa breeder to find out if Cressa mom was having anymore puppies. She had one line up but we weren't sure if it would take since Cressa mom was 10years old(the dog turn out to be sterile). So I kept looking for a back up pup. I didn't want just a pup I wanted a pup that could take me places (at the time agility, herding, obedience, and conformation). I know how bad it sounds buit I wanted a pretty working border collie.

So I looked for a conformation border collie that also worked or was being bred to a working dog. I finally found a litter that had what I was looking for (or so it seem). The dad had the looks(and maybe drive-he is now doing supposedly herding in USBCHA but as someone pointed out there is no 1st placed in USBCHA and I didn't think there was a novice level...? but I really don't know) and the mom herds and does agility. At the time she was recovering from a boken leg in a farm accident a couple of months ago so couldn't herd or do agility. :D I get obsessive over thing and I wanted to make sure this was a good breeding... At the time I was slightly puzzle since the breeder claim this was the best dog for her girl, now I know, it was the best "color" dog for her girl but I wanted a stable temperament that wanted to work with me. A dog without sensitivity and along come Troy. A dog that had socialization before I got it that had the early neurological stimulation. A dog that I thought could give me a more advantage in training. Troy is everything I asked/was looking for temperment , built, and drive wise and he still has some border collie quirks. He got the name doggie boomarang pretty fast he use to never leave my side-he would go out 30ft then come back. He also hated being alone and even jumped from a second story window to be with me(Amazingly enough he came out unharm?!). He also had a firm belief that you were supposed to go poo on the carpet (icky). Troy is thru and thru a Mama's boy(not trying to make anyone gag). After doing some conformation with Troy I can't beleive what they are trying to pass off as a border collie! I was actually very disappointed with the "border collies". I think Troy will be my first and last conformation/sport/working bred dog.

I know I got off to a bad start with some of the people on this board

If people didn't make mistakes, God would not have put erasers on pencils, nor invented white-out. :D

As for spelling and grammar...this is a message board, not an English class.

Now for the bad news: the pix don't show up (at least not on my computer), although I can access them if I use the URL as a hyperlink.

I know I did what the post said for posting pix:

Directions for posting image in text when you have that image on a server (such as photobucket):

The easiest way is to type or paste in the full URL, including the "http://" part, and then put "[ img ]" in front of it and "[ /img ]" after it, leaving no spaces between the URL and the bracketed material, and no spaces between the characters within the brackets and the brackets themselves.

ETA: If I put the backslash in this message pops up:

THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND

Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed

and if I close the space between the the links will not work...

You're missing the "/" in the closing [/img] tags, and you've left spaces where you're not supposed to. I can't see photobucket (ever) so I can't test this theory to see if I'm right, but give it a try.

An even easier way to post images is to click on the "insert image" button (2nd row, 6th from left) when you're composing your post, and just paste the URL of the image in the box that pops up.

We all learn from our mistakes....it's if you admit you made a mistake and then fix it and go on is what shows a person can learn and grow.

Heck I made a mistake when I first started to do herding in ACK.....then I realized my mistake and went to USBCHA trials.....no one is perfect....you learn from your mistakes.

You love your dogs......that is what is important.

Welcome to the boards!

I think your issue might be that you need the .jpg at the end of your url and the [/img] at the end of each. Yay for code writing.

Your Cressa sounds a lot like my Masi, fearful of some agility equipment. I'm glad she was able to work through it and do agility with you!

In Photobucket, you just click on the link under the photo. That will automatically copy the link you need. Then, you just past the link into your post. You don't have to add the 's, since they are already part of the copied link from Photobucket.

My photobucket has 4 options. It is the bottom one (IMG Code) that formats it correctly for this forum.
