Elizabeth77
I was looking at a thread about dogs watching TV and it spurred me to ask this question. I watch Dog Whisperer a lot and take from it what I want. However thats not my point, Meg never never shows the slightest reaction to the barking of the dogs on the show. I think this must be unusual , or is it?? Oh her hearing is excellent.
bc4ever
Scooter's only reacted a few times to dogs on t.v. Once, when the dog on DW sounded distressed, and once when we were watching a show about herding in Scotland. Every time the man whistled, Scooter sat up and took notice. MrSnappy
Tweed only looks at tv if there is a border collie on the screen. Other dogs and any other programs receive no response. Seriously. RDM
vanillalove
Pete doesn't react to other barking dogs on TV or any other noises - but if someone rings a doorbell on TV, he goes berserk and sits in his spot by the door where he waits when people arrive. It's the only thing he can't distinguish from reality. Strange dog.
mbc1963
Oh, my dog ignores TV, too, but will also respond to a TV doorbell that sounds like my doorbell. He doesn't care about barking dogs on TV, but then again, he doesn't really care about faint sounds of real dogs barking outside, either. Hmm... Elizabeth77
Seems amazing that a dog will bark at another dog in the garden but somehow knows that TV dogs are not 'real'; I would love to know why they behave like that. I wonder do all breeds react by ignoring TV dogs.
Ninso
Lok hasn't done it in awhile, but he used to bark at dogs on TV that barked or howled or noises that sounded like dogs barking or whining. Once shortly after bringing him home, my BF and I were watching a show about wolves and Lok went NUTS barking at the wolves every time they howled! He would run up to the TV and bump it with his nose. To avoid getting nose prints on the TV we started turning it off when he walked up to it--then he started looking behind the TV and in the bedroom behind the wall the TV is against for the wolves! It was pretty funny, but he hasn't done anything like that in a long time.
bc4ever
Scooter reacts to doorbell sounds on t.v. too!
Maralynn
Kipp heard a slamming screen door on TV last week and ran out to the kitchen barking at whoever was coming in. Missy, my usual bark alarm, completely ignored it.
beachdogz
ok, mine's the oddball. She barks at everything she hears barking...on tv or on the computer. One of my favorite things is to watch agility videos from this site and others, and she goes nuts when she hears the barking at the shows. Runs around the house barking like crazy. My other dog does not react at all; although he'll bark when she's barking. Oh, and she also reacts to knocking on the door or doorbells on TV. Dixie_Girl
Cheyenne will bark at the tv at barking dogs or just dogs, well, any animal. Skip, if he hears a dog barking on tv, will run out to the back yard, barking at whatever may be invading. He has never associated the tv with the barking. Cheyenne, on the other hand just "knows" they are in that "box" somewhere! Jackson ignores tv altogether as does Holly.
