shelb'smum
I just signed us up to foster. I am nervous. BUT SO EXCITED! since we can't/I'm not allowed have another dog for keeps, I signed up to foster BC's and we might... MAYBE be bringing in a lil girl named Emma. I haven't heard back from the lady at the rescue yet, but Emma is on death row, if she doesn't get pulled today they will put her to sleep. so now is just the waiting game.. pooey. Wish her luck

Bordercentrics
Just a quick word - Many BC's don't do well in shelters. Some become subdued and depressed, some are hyper. What you see in the shelter, or in a dog that just came out of the shelter, is not necessarily what you will get in a few days or weeks... shelb'smum
Well, the Lady from the shelter never called or emailed back, so I don't know what happened to Emma. I really hope that she is ok. and got pulled.
WyoBC
I hope everything went ok. Bordercentrics, what do you mean? Can they be really bad, like the one here in town seems to be pretty happy and loves to play but does that mean he could be totaly different after you bring him home? RaisingRiver
Hey Shelb's mom, was it the BC Rescue out of Molalla that you contacted? They posted on Craig's looking for foster homes - and they work with the PNW Rescue. http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pet/231221815.html http://pnwbcrescue.org/
Rolf
Shelb`sMom, why is Emma on death row? Is it because the time is over to stay in rescue? Many years ago I worked for a death row dog, an Akita called Taro. He was 6 years old and three years in prison in Hackensack NJ. The High Court wanted this dog dead. This is no joke. The Govonor pardoned him in the early 1994. I wish that Emma`s story finds a happy end. And I hope, that you must not wait very much longer. Please be as kind as to inform us as soon as posibble when there are any news with Emma.
shelb'smum
Raising River, yes it is through them. I am been talking back and forth with one of the ladies about fostering, and she brought up emma. Emma's last day was yesterday according to the shelter. but we havn't been able to get ahold of them to stop it and get her out. so Honestly I really don't know her story or even if she is still alive. they have already taken her off the web site. HOPEFULLY this means that she got adopted last minute. I am also trying to help with another group that pulled 20 dogs, mostly small dogs and puppies from CA. they were all scheduled to be PTS today I think. they are trying to get me to take 2 Australin cattle dogs! lol imagine 3 high energy dogs in a 2 bed room apartment! HA! I would NOT want that for them or my sainity. but I will be bringing in a foster soon, either BC or non BC. I am glad to help. (fostering is my reward for FINALLY going to PCC and getting my GED and I will be starting basic studies so later on I can become a vet tech.) FOR any of you high school students... STAY IN SCHOOL you can go so far with an education.
Bordercentrics
"Bordercentrics, what do you mean? I think it's more likely they would be worse when you first take them home. It depends on how the individual dog handles the stress of being in the shelter. Our two are good examples. Meg was in the shelter for two weeks and was very depressed. The person who was going to adopt her didn't because she wouldn't leave the back of the run or look at her. When we first took her picture, she was happy, loving, and altogether wonderful. After she was with us for a while, she became that way again. Ruby was calm and sweet in the shelter, but that was because she had kennel cough and giardia. When she was well she became a super active girl who didn't stop running for several months. Bottom line, shelters are hard on dogs, especially Borders because many are very sensitive and emotional.
