esox
What really works for ticks? We have had several dogs around here get ticks and one person. The dogs were on Frontline. While we were at the vet's today for Elwood's shots antoher came in. The vet says that Frontlne is just a repellent, but doesn't always work. Is there something better. We have lots of woods, fields, and deer around. Alex and I enjoy hiking and exploring and I want to make sure she has the best possible protection. BustopherJones
I am not an expert, so I will defer to others who have better knowledge. In my case, I take Annie for hikes through the woods during milder weather. My vet is adamant about the fact that traditional flea and tick treatments (including Frontline) do NOT provide adequate protection against ticks. She recommends a collar that specifically protects against ticks (in addition to the Frontline that we use) when Annie is in a situation where she could be exposed to the little buggers. I can't specifically speak to a recommended commercial brand name, as we use a prescription-required collar that we get from the vet. Journey
I don't know any RX collars, but I get mine from the vet as well - PrevenTick is the brand. I swear by them during tick season.
Lizmo
We switch around with Frontline Plus and Advantage. Seems to be working so far
RuthBelle
I've been using Frontline on Belle, and it seems to work maybe the first week or two after application. Ticks might be crawling on her, but not embedded. Going into week 3 it seems to loose it's effectiveness and by week 4 we've picked as many as 15 embedded ticks off her after a walk in the woods. Big flat ticks and those ominous looking little ones that probably carry Lymes, etc. Seems like every evening when Bob and I sit down with Belle to watch TV, one of us has to do "Tick pickin' duty". What fun. I'll have to ask my vet about the prescription collars.
