Sam'smom
September is an especially hard month for me.... My dad passed away in Sept 95 of cancer, I lost a few close friends in the attacks on the WTC on Sept 11 in 2001 To get to my point of this post....... It has always struck me as pretty amazing as to how sensitive to sadness my dogs have been, My old boy Toby always knew when I needed comforting he was a big lug of a borderline collie a clown and a nut, he helped and was a comfort to me through some of the absolute worst times in my life. He sure had some soggy doggy shoulders.... he was a very perceptive boy, I miss him dearly as I had to have him put down in January. Now I have Sam, he's 6 months old in 3 days and well today he has been by me all day... stuck to me like glue actually... it's as if he knows I am especially sad today... he's turning out to be an incredible, gentle and smart dog. I consider myself pretty lucky he picked me to be his surrogate mom :-)
afrancis
Today in particular is tough as it is the anniversary of the day my husband and daughter died, Mike was 32 and Chloe my daughter was only 7 months old. I was lucky I suppose and suvived it spent 4 weeks in hospital and a year more or less in rehab. ... Now I have Sam, he's 6 months old in 3 days and well today he has been by me all day... stuck to me like glue actually... it's as if he knows I am especially sad today... he's turning out to be an incredible, gentle and smart dog. I consider myself pretty lucky he picked me to be his surrogate mom :-) Sam's Mom, I am so sorry to hear of your tragic history with September. I only hope that this month can begin to have more positive memories for you -- maybe Sam can help you find some joy through the rest of the month. He looks similar to my Skye with the white nose and socks, and he looks gorgeous and sweet (your pics of him at the beach!) Although I haven't had any moments of sadness anywhere near comparable to yours, Skye does seem to know when the mood around here has shifted, whether it be feeling under the weather or just feeling low; if there's no prospect for fun, she either comes onto the bed and settles in or just makes herself invisible so as not to cause any undue trouble. They are so responsive, whatever the situation. All my best, Ailsa
urge to herd
Sam's Mom, I'm so sorry to hear of all your painful losses. I'm glad Sam is right there with you, ready for a cuddle or a walk or whatever you might need right now. My thoughts are with you. Laurae
I too am sorry to hear about all of your losses, Sam'smom. September is a rough month for me as well, as I lost my sister (and best friend) on September 7, 2003. Sophie and especially Taz console me. I am glad to hear Sam is following in Toby's footsteps to be there in such a comforting way for you.
Ooky
Really sorry to hear about these bad Sept memories/associations A good pet *really* helps at times like these - of course they know you feel bad. Delta Blues Tess just had a similar thread too, on physical pain. I'm so glad people here have such loving companions to get them through the hard parts, just as I am glad to have mine.
