Bo Peep
A while back, maybe 6-9 months I had asked if you could ever have another heart dog. I found out yes, you can. Wednesday, I woke up just thinking I had a touch of the flu. Usher had refused his crate Tuesday night- by that, I mean he goes in but comes back out. I should have known the signs. After I got up Wed. My tummy was upset, so I canceled my obedience lesson and gave up my spot until next year, since my trip will be in conflict with the show. Then it happened. Another real bad dystonia couple of days- I'm still not quite over it yet, but I can walk now. Usher spent Wed morning through today on my bed with his body curled around mine and his neck resting on my neck to reduce my shaking. I DID NOT train him to do this. He looks at me with all the love in his heart and did not ask to fetch and didn't mind if I was late for food. All he cared about was my well being. Normally, he is not let on the bed during the night, but he knew differently and laid by me and followed by my side to make sure I didn't fall. Bliss was near me, also, but not with the same affection and deep devotion as Usher. I once thought Miss Lacey could never be replaced as the love of my life. Usher has a special place in my heart as our love has grown together slowly and for all of you that grieve over the loss of your heart dogs. Believe me, another one will come your way and he or she might even worm their way into your heart a little more than the first one.

Bo Peep
Thanks- Today is my first day back on shaky feet. I'm just very lucky only my youngest son and my Mom has seen me look like this- It's not pretty- LOL. I'm very lucky it only happens about 4 times a year and lasts only a few days. I'm also very lucky to have Usher. Bless his furry little heart!

poligar
Sweet story... These angels suprise us every day with such behaviors and reasoning/feeling capacities beyond our understanding. I'm glad you got such a caring nurse for yourself! Bo Peep
not looking for any "pity" here- that's the LAST thing I want. I just wanted to explain that sometimes a heart dog can walk into your heart. My first heart dog was love at first site. Usher has proven his love and we have clicked beyond belief. I'm back on my feet and I really need a shower- I think I'll wait till BF is here. Usher is too kind to say anything, but he knows I must be feeling better as the "cuz" is at my feet and tonight, my BF is coming over and Usher really needs a walk to the park and some "tennis ball action" after all. The best dog in the world deserves it. Oh- I am now changing "DH" to "DD" darling dog. A well deserved title (in my book)

You are lucky to have Usher and I think it probably works the other way too--he's lucky to have you. That bond is so special. And glad to read farther in the thread that you are feeling better. jdarling
Echo does that too. And she farts. I didn't train her to do that either. I think she enjoys laying in bed late watching MTV reality television while I drink coffee and surf the net, also came naturally.... You are so lucky to have a dog like Usher! Good for you! ShoresDog
Given that dogs have life spans that are so sadly shorter than ours, it is really nice to know that new bonds can form with a new dog. Hooray for the sensitive and loving Usher!
DeltaBluez Tess
It's really good to have a heart dog. It means so much when you are sick to have the heart dog providing that bit of nuturing. I know when I was too sick to move, recovering from my heart surgery, Tess was catering to me. She was my little healing dog..... Give Usher a kiss from us. He is a good dog!! It's good to see the bond grow between you too Diane
beachdogz
That is no "small brag"...that is one big brag, much larger than "my dog earned a title" or "my dog learned a command". That is what makes our dogs so very, very special. Thank you for sharing that story...it brought tears to my eyes. And you are so, so gifted to have such a special dog in Usher. Bo Peep
I just got off the phone with Don, who sold me Usher. I told him this story. I heard his voice crack and a tear in his eye. He' a tough guy on the outside, but such a softie on the inside. He was, to say the least, VERY PLEASED, with Usher. I told him that when he arrives home- he's been gone 6 weeks, we would like to continue lessons- hopefully with me at the lead this time. Cross your fingers. He asked me if he could post it on his website, well, of course. I know Don is totally into herding, but this story touched his heart. To have one of his pups do something other than herding, although Ush could do quite well, with a different handler, he is serving a purpose to me. Don mentioned something about getting 12th at the finals, not sure what finals they were or with what dog he was running, but I'm very proud of him. AND very lucky to know him. Also, very thankful for all your remarks, no title for Usher- just the title of "Love of my Life" and to all of you that have a SD, thank them every day. Of course, it's their job---but a prouder job they could NEVER have!!!
Laurae
Dianne, Don and his Cap dog placed 12th at the 2008 USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals. I met him there for the first time, and he's quite a nice guy!
Bo Peep
I agree Laura- I first met Don in 1990's. He is such a kind man. When I moved from W. OR. to E. OR. I asked Kathy who I could "play" with and she suggested Don. We had met at a few trials and exchanged farms. He really didn't offer me much advice, my dogs were doing pretty good and it was a looooooong time ago. When mine all went old and died, I needed another dog and my health wasn't too good. He KNEW I knew BC's and I waited a year for a good one. He hand picked Usher for me. A good choice- I didn't care about his looks, but sure was pleased he was so handsome. Usher and I had our troubles, not so easy when you aren't on a farm- LOL. ALSO being an only dog- Migraine died a month before Usher came She was the last of 6. I was hoping she could help, but did not want to prolong her suffering. Mammary tumors- being spayed at 13- sorry honey, I waited too long- She died at 15, my youngest BC to die. I miss her, like I miss all the others. Poor Migraine, she suffered from the name. My Grain. That was better. She worked better than I could with a bucket of "My Grain" - Getting sentimental here. Must be nap time- LOL.
